The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Short throws an overhand right that lands on Bates's shoulder, as Bates tries to avoid the shot.
Short is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Bates.
Jab, jab by Short - just one landing.
Short closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Short connects with a beautiful left hand that drops Bates onto his butt! Bates bounces straight back up though - he's OK. After the ref checks him out, we're back to the action.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Short throws a body punch but Bates moves out of range.
Short moves into the clinch.
Short breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Short punishes Bates's body with a nice straight punch.
A jab lands there for Bates.
Bates scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
BAM! Short delivers a spinning backfist that drops Bates like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground!
