PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ramon Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jackson Montgomery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Jiu Jitsu: Vai Finaliza!. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ramon Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jackson Montgomery!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Saam Ante and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie throws out a leg kick but Montgomery moves out of range and Gracie only half commits.
Montgomery looks to throw the jab but Gracie is out of range.

Montgomery closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gracie has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Gracie tries to bench press Montgomery off him but Montgomery keeps the position.
What's Gracie going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Gracie is trying to control Montgomery's posture but Montgomery avoids it.
Montgomery tries to get to his feet but Gracie is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Montgomery in his guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Montgomery is looking to stand up but Gracie won't let him.

Montgomery got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Montgomery has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Montgomery defends well.

Montgomery is trying to stick to Gracie's back but Gracie is turning into Montgomery. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Montgomery's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gracie.

Gracie looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Montgomery with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gracie wants to work for an arm triangle but Montgomery is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Montgomery is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Gracie is staying active.
Gracie is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Gracie stalling away here and it's allowed Montgomery to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Montgomery swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Gracie closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Montgomery to the mat! Montgomery manages to get full guard.

Gracie is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Montgomery to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Montgomery shrugs it off.

Gracie is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Montgomery can do to turn this around?

Gracie has control of Montgomery's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Montgomery regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gracie, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
