11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Troy Kirkland! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Genichiro Shimada! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kirkland defending well as Shimada loads up on a big left hand. Shimada just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromKirkland. Kirkland fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shimada manages to avoid it. Kirkland takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Shimada connects with the punch. It looks like Genichiro Shimada has been cut. Genichiro Shimada seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kirkland staying out of range there. Kirkland seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Kirkland walks into a left hand.

Shimada tests Kirkland's chin there with a solid looking shot. Shimada catches his opponent with a big hook that sends him to the canvas! Kirkland stumbles back to his feet but will the referee allow it to continue? Kirkland walks forwards and this one will be allowed to continue! Come on! Kirkland tried to score with a low kick but Shimada checks it. Shimada staying out of range there. Nice defenses there by Kirkland. Shimada uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Kirkland tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Shimada is able to avoid easily. Shimada thows a left - swing and a miss!

Kirkland had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. The fighters circling - Shimada throws out the jab but it was never going to land. A quick step to the side and Kirkland tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Kirkland ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Shimada might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Kirkland walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Kirkland throws out a leg kick but Shimada moves out of range and Kirkland only half commits. Shimada ducks into a a hook from Kirkland and goes down! He looks in a bit of a mess; will he beat the count?! 4,5,6,7,8 - he's up and looking to carry on! The referee looks into his eyes and sees that he's OK to continue!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Kirkland lands a nice leg kick that just misses Shimada's sensitive parts. Kirkland misses with a wild body shot. Shimada lands a glancing blow to the side of Kirkland's head. Kirkland uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Shimada. Kirkland scores a flash knockdown with a right hook that drops Shimada to his hands and knees! The ref pushes Kirkland away as he looks to land an illegal blow. Shimada got an extra few seconds to recover there, which could have made all the differences as he stumbles back to his feet. The referee looks into his eyes and decides to allow the bout to continue. Can he survive?! Shimada swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Shimada throws a shot from downtown. Kirkland moves away and avoids it. Shimada pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Kirkland misses with a body kick. A little jabbing left from Shimada on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Donk. Shimada catches Kirkland right on the button with a cross. Troy Kirkland's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Kirkland gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Kirkland ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Shimada throws a hook to the side of Kirkland's head but Kirkland sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Shimada lands with a cross. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Genichiro Shimada dominated that round. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

The referee's count has reached 5,6,7 and Kirkland is still not up. Can he make it? 8,9, he's up! Wow, he cut that one a bit fine! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kirkland stuns Shimada with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Shimada throws a looping overhand right but Kirkland ducks down to avoid it. Kirkland fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shimada manages to avoid it. Shimada throws the left hand but Kirkland avoids the punch easily. Genichiro Shimada seems to be getting the better of the standup.
