Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Aurelio Rivera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nicholas Diaz! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A clash of legs there as Rivera blocks the low kick. Rivera tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Diaz manages to circle out of the way. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Diaz!
It looks like Aurelio Rivera has been cut. Diaz throws a left and a right that both miss
and Rivera counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Rivera scores with a shoulder strike. Rivera avoiding damage.
Rivera looking to throw knees to the head but Diaz is blocking nicely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rivera leaning against his opponent.
Rivera manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Diaz tries to stand but Rivera is controlling from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rivera is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Rivera is looking for a triangle but Diaz pushes his legs off easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Rivera is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Diaz is aware though and is defending well. Rivera has momentary wrist control but Diaz slips an elbow through the middle. Rivera avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Rivera wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Diaz trying to control but Rivera is working from the bottom.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Diaz manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Rivera on his heels. He'll look to pass Rivera's guard now, I'm sure.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rivera working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Diaz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Diaz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Rivera is adopting a defensive guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Rivera is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rivera could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Rivera is adopting a defensive guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Rivera trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Diaz moves into range and clinches up with Rivera. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Nicholas Diaz will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Aurelio Rivera's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Diaz misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
It looked like Rivera was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Diaz tries a head kick but it misses.
Rivera seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Diaz drives through with a takedown into Rivera's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rivera holds on and takes a little breather. Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Rivera is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz is fighting to break Rivera's control of his arms but Rivera is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Diaz looking to sit in guard and control but Rivera gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Diaz has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Diaz working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Rivera. Rivera postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Diaz is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Rivera, into his guard. Rivera bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Diaz's guard.
Rivera thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rivera makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Rivera drops back looking for a leg! Diaz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Diaz manages to kick Rivera off! Rivera jumps back into Diaz's guard. Diaz working for a triangle but Rivera defends it easily.
Diaz is breathing heavily. Rivera drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Rivera seems to have locked his on tight now - Diaz screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Rivera, as he picks up the win!
