Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frances Wells!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Cavaliers!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Luis Engracia and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wells will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cavaliers looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Wells closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cavaliers's guard.
Wells trying to stand up but can't free himself from Cavaliers's guard.

Wells postures up and lands a big shot to Cavaliers's brow.
Wells cracks Cavaliers with a solid left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wells with a nice head shot there.
Wells has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wells with a flurry of punches that miss.
Wells engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Wells makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Wells stands up and waves to Cavaliers to follow him.
Cavaliers fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Wells closes the distance and clinches.

Wells pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cavaliers enables Wells to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cavaliers manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Cavaliers is looking to stand back up but Wells counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Cavaliers.

Well, if Wells is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Wells stands up out of the half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wells shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cavaliers pinned against the cage. Cavaliers gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Wells feints and as Cavaliers raises his hands in defense, Wells changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cavaliers is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Wells dives into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.


Wells stands up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Wells shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wells showed some decent athleticism there.
Wells content to control rather than advance.
Wells looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Wells stands up and beckons Cavaliers to join him on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Wells shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Wells gets to his feet. Cavaliers looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Wells fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cavaliers, pushing him back against the cage.
Wells slows down the pace here.

Wells pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Marcelo Cavaliers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wells drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Cavaliers wants to get back to his feet but Wells passes into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frances Wells dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Excellent takedown into side control there by Wells.
Cavaliers bucks up and tries to throw Wells off but instead Wells has got his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've been informed that Cavaliers has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Wells is working for a rear naked choke. Cavaliers is not defending it well and Wells has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Cavaliers refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Cavaliers's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Frances Wells!
