PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bill Stephens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Deen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Bill Stephens has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Bill Stephens seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Deen!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, William Gold and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deen misses with a double jab

and Stephens moves into the clinch.

Deen has hold of one of Stephens's legs. Stephens is fighting the takedown attempt but Deen gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Stephens manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Deen is trying to break the clinch but Stephens has him pressed against the cage.

Deen manages to break the clinch.
Stephens really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Deen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Deen just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromStephens.

Deen has managed to clinch.

Stephens tightens his grip and picks Deen up, before dumping him to the ground. Deen manages to land in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Deen is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Stephens dives into side control.
Deen seems a little lost for a moment, as Stephens dominates the positioning.

Stephens decides to stand back up. Stephens steps back and let's Deen get back to his feet.
Deen looks winded!

and Stephens counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Stephens.

Stephens gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Stephens.

Deen throws a lazy head kick

and Stephens counters by moving into the clinch.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Stephens, as that shot connected.

and Stephens counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stephens stands up from Deen's guard - Stephens perhaps looking for a knockout.
Deen swats away the attempt to clinch by Stephens.

Stephens avoiding damage.
Deen is looking to break free of the clinch but Stephens has double underhooks.

Stephens prevents Deen from breaking the clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Stephens fails to land.

Deen tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Stephens pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Deen throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Good work by Stephens as he checks the leg kick.
Stephens is looking to counter the offense by Deen and move into the clinch.
Stephens looks for the body kick but Deen saw that one coming.
Stephens throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Deen is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Stephens throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Deen clinches up with Stephens and pushes him back against the cage.

Daniel Deen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Stephens counters with a takedown into side control.
The referee asks Stephens politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Stephens prefers to stall for the moment though.

Stephens has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Stephens manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Deen jumps into guard, dragging Stephens to the mat.

As Deen tries to get set, Stephens tries to push him back and clinch up but Deen manages to avoid the attempt.

Stephens seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Deen for as long as he can get away with.

Stephens shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Deen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Deen tries to bench press Stephens off him but Stephens keeps the position.

Stephens wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Deen, who protects the arm well.
Stephens is staying tight to Deen's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Deen wants to get back to his feet but Stephens is dominant here and he's now got Deen's back!
Stephens controls the action.
Stephens has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
