Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roberto Rodriguez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dominic Toretto! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Eddie Farnsworth and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodriguez avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rodriguez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Toretto defends it nicely. Toretto misses with a leg kick. Toretto has Rodriguez up against the cage in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rodriguez managing to block the knees to the body from Toretto.
Rodriguez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Rodriguez is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Toretto can't fight it off and eventually Rodriguez manages to take the fight to the floor. Toretto looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Toretto wants to stand but Rodriguez is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rodriguez sitting in guard here, content to control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rodriguez prevents Toretto from getting back to his feet. Rodriguez lands a couple of digs. Rodriguez pushing down on Toretto's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Toretto really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rodriguez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Toretto wants to get back to full guard. Rodriguez is controlling the pace.
Rodriguez is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Toretto sees it coming and defends easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rodriguez is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Toretto has managed to free his arm - good work. Rodriguez lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Toretto has hold of Rodriguez's hands but Rodriguez slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Rodriguez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Toretto tries to kick Rodriguez off in order to stand up. Rodriguez Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. Toretto takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Toretto is rocked! Toretto told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Rodriguez content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Toretto is still in real trouble! Can Rodriguez finish him? Rodriguez has hold of Toretto's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Toretto seems comfortable defending it but Rodriguez has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Toretto is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Toretto is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Rodriguez couldn't care less - he's delighted!
