Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ludvig Ericsson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Rudi Dassler! The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dassler is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ericsson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Dassler has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Ericsson is landing a low percentage of strikes. Ericsson lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
It looks like Rudi Dassler has been cut. Ericsson misses with a body shot.
Ericsson is looking to chop away at Dassler's legs. Dassler shoots in for a takedown but Ericsson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Ericsson tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Dassler wants to counter the offense by Ericsson and move into the clinch position. Dassler shoots in looking for a takedown. Ericsson tries to sprawl out of it but Dassler keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ericsson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Ludvig Ericsson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rudi Dassler. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dassler on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ericsson misses the shot to the body. Dassler changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Dassler shoots in for a double leg but Ericsson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Ericsson misses with a leg kick and Dassler counters with a shoot takedown. Ericsson fights it but they end up in guard. Dassler tries to free his leg and advance position but Ericsson is retaining full guard. Ericsson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Dassler drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ericsson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dassler has Ericsson in his guard.
Dassler is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Ericsson rolls with it to try and escape but Dassler cranks on the arm and Ericsson is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rudi Dassler! Rudi Dassler very nearly forgot to thank Urban Fighter amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name.
