PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Diego Brandao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phoenix Trujillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Trujillo is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Jiu-Jitsu . I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Diego Brandao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Phoenix Trujillo!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Atkins and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brandao attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
A jab from Trujillo misses.

Brandao instigates a clinch.
Trujillo tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Trujillo letting Brandao take a breather here.
Brandao misses with a hook to the ribs.
Brandao can't find room to land a body shot as Trujillo controls the action.
Trujillo is pushing Brandao up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Trujillo tries to pull guard but Brandao holds him up against the cage and eventually Trujillo drops back down to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brandao can't find room to land a body shot as Trujillo controls the action.
Brandao working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Trujillo goes for a takedown in the clinch but Brandao prevents it.
Diego Brandao has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phoenix Trujillo.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Brandao.

Trujillo stalls.
Trujillo is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
The crowd are getting on Trujillo's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.

Trujillo jumps guard and drags Brandao to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Brandao trying to control the position from guard on top but Trujillo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Trujillo trying to keep a closed guard but Brandao is proving a slippery customer.
Trujillo wants to control the position but Brandao says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Brandao takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Trujillo is looking to improve his position.

Trujillo looking for submissions off his back.
Trujillo is looking for a sweep. Brandao is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Brandao knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Trujillo on the ground.
Brandao wants to stand up but Trujillo manages to regain full guard.

Trujillo looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Brandao looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Trujillo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Brandao wants to control from the top but Trujillo keeps moving.
Brandao postures up.
Trujillo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brandao is one step ahead there.

Trujillo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Trujillo is looking for a triangle but Brandao pushes his legs off easily.
Brandao seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Trujillo has his foot on Brandao's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Brandao works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A shot to the liver by Trujillo. Beautiful body shot.
Brandao looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Trujillo pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Phoenix Trujillo will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Brandao throws a left and a right that both miss

and Trujillo counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Trujillo wants to pass the guard but Brandao is defending well.

Trujillo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Brandao doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Trujillo.

Brandao is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Trujillo's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Trujillo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Trujillo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Brandao is staying active underneath Trujillo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Trujillo wants to take a breather but Brandao is having none of it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Trujillo is trying for a kimura here. Brandao looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Trujillo wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Phoenix Trujillo!
Phoenix Trujillo bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
