PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bernz Gilas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Psycho Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gilas comes to the cage accompanied by Remember The Name - Fort Minor. Russell has chosen Encore Jay z and Lincoln Park as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bernz Gilas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Psycho Russell!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gilas slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.


It looks like Psycho Russell has been cut.
Gilas misses with a takedown attempt
and Russell counters with a straight right hand.

Russell gets caught napping as Gilas dives in and scores a takedown. Russell manages to retain guard.
Gilas is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Russell wants to stand but Gilas is controlling the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Russell enables Gilas to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Russell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Russell wants to get back to his feet but Gilas is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Russell had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gilas defends it easily.
Gilas wants to control from the top but Russell keeps moving.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gilas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Russell escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gilas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Russell not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Russell wants to stand and escape but Gilas is having none of it.
Gilas passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Gilas is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Russell is trying to maintain the position but Gilas is very close to passing his half guard.
Gilas prevents Russell from standing back up.

Russell is defending against the submission attempts here by Gilas.
Gilas lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Gilas not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Gilas is looking to take a break and control but Russell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Russell wants to get back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Gilas looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Russell with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Russell has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gilas is working away from the top position though.

Russell is still in real trouble! Can Gilas finish him?
Gilas scores with a big shot! Russell's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Russell! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bernz Gilas!
An out of breath Bernz Gilas thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
In defeat, Psycho Russell stepped up to the mic, saying 'Got to train harder and get more focus'.
