The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Avery scores with a punch to the head. Martins wants to clinch up but Avery keeps it at a distance. Felix Martins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Martins wants to clinch up but Avery keeps it at a distance. Martins tries to close the distance and clinch but Avery swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Avery fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Martins, pushing him back against the cage. Martins can't find room to land a body shot as Avery controls the action.

Avery is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Martins unloads a knee to the mid-section. Avery gets a trip takedown into half guard. He's simply no match for Avery on the ground. Martins is breathing heavily. Avery slips a nice elbow through Martins's hands, connecting with Martins's forehead. That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Avery thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Martins's head. Avery takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Avery frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Avery is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Martins can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The referee warns Martins that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Avery cracks Martins with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
