PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Quinton Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackson comes to the cage accompanied by Go Hard. George Rogers told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Quinton Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, George Rogers!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rogers shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jackson tries to clinch up but Rogers circles away and keeps his distance.

Rogers scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Rogers tries to advance position but instead Jackson slips a leg back in to half guard.

Rogers is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jackson defends it well.

Jackson makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

so Rogers counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Jackson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jackson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rogers manages to get himself to full guard.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jackson lands a nice short elbow.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rogers is looking for a sweep. Jackson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jackson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Rogers wants to control but Jackson is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That was a close round but I would say that Quinton Jackson will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Jackson is pressing down on Rogers's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Rogers drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jackson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rogers has Jackson in his guard.

George Rogers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Rogers fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jackson sprawls well initially but Rogers persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jackson wants to get back to full guard.
Rogers is nestled in close to Jackson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Jackson is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rogers scores with a couple of nice shots.

Rogers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jackson keeps working.
Rogers might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jackson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Rogers looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jackson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Quinton Jackson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jackson is looking to control Rogers's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jackson avoid being mounted?

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rogers moves in looking to clinch but Jackson pushes him off.
Jackson avoids the head kick by Rogers.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jackson.
You can see the frustration on Rogers's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

I would just about give that final round to George Rogers.
Well Jackson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
