PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sandy Osborne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brendan Conlon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Conlon is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: lose yourself. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conlon dives in for a single leg takedown but Osborne sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Conlon lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.


It looks like Sandy Osborne has been cut.
Conlon throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Osborne seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Conlon fails to land with a series of punches.
Osborne throws a big counter combination but Conlon scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Conlon fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Osborne, pushing him back against the cage.
Osborne is trying to pull guard but Conlon turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Osborne's face as he tries to break the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Conlon tries for a takedown but Osborne manages to get underhooks.

Osborne breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Conlon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Conlon shoots in and drives through. Osborne sprawls well.

Conlon has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Osborne is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Osborne is trying to pull guard but Conlon has him pressed against the cage.
Conlon wants to break free but Osborne has control.

Osborne escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Osborne holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Brendan Conlon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Conlon tries to score a power double leg takedown but Osborne sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Conlon somewhat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Osborne lands an elbow that stopped Conlon in his tracks for a moment.


It looks like Brendan Conlon has been cut.

Conlon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Conlon looks to land a combination but Osborne avoids it well.

Conlon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Osborne as he jumps to the side.
Conlon shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Osborne eats them both and turns towards Conlon to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Conlon is breathing heavily.

Conlon takes a kick to the side of the head.
Conlon tries for a takedown but Osborne circles away easily

and Osborne counters by clinching up.
Osborne jumps guard but Conlon stands there with Osborne around his waist. Osborne gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Osborne fails to pull guard.
Osborne jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Conlon walks away with a smile on his face. Osborne gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sandy Osborne. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Conlon gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Osborne keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Conlon's head.

Conlon wants to stand and escape but Osborne is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Osborne throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Conlon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Osborne accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Conlon is working an open guard so Osborne takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Osborne holds on and takes a little breather.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Conlon manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Osborne jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Conlon walks away with a smile on his face. Osborne gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Conlon drives through and clinches with Osborne against the cage.

Osborne pulls guard effortlessly.

Conlon drops back, looking for a kneebar! Osborne looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Osborne looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Osborne!

Conlon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Osborne pulls guard successfully.
Conlon throws a strike but Osborne rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Conlon wants to get back to his feet but Osborne is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Osborne lands a couple of digs.
Osborne has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Osborne is looking to work some ground and pound but Conlon has wrist control.
Conlon wants to get back to his feet but Osborne passes into half guard.
Osborne throws a strike but Conlon avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Osborne, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
