Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Edwardo Carey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Evgeniy Cirfych! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Matti Vanhoillinen and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cirfych darts in looking for a takedown but Carey gets double underhooks and turns Cirfych into the cage. Carey has closed the distance and engaged Cirfych in a clinch.
Carey gets control of Cirfych's arms and successfully pulls guard. Carey will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Carey working for a triangle but Cirfych defends it easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Carey is on top in guard.
Carey trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carey stands up over Cirfych, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Carey decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Cirfych, up you get! Carey shoots in for a takedown but Cirfych shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Carey throws a low kick but Cirfych moves out of range easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carey feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Carey stands up over Cirfych, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Cirfych trying to control the position.
Carey scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Carey with a flurry of punches that miss. Carey with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Cirfych has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Carey has passed into side control.
Carey landing a few strikes.
Cirfych is rocked! A big shot lands for Carey! That's hurt Cirfych! Will he recover? Carey fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
