8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tapio Sammalkorpi! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Bart Greer and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sammalkorpi shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wiggum defends it nicely. Wiggum rushes Sammalkorpi and presses him up against the cage. Sammalkorpi tries to throw a body punch but Wiggum avoids it by throwing Sammalkorpi back against the cage. Wiggum lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Sammalkorpi backwards. Sammalkorpi tries for a takedown. No joy.
Wiggum stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Wiggum lands with a short shot to the head. Wiggum softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Wiggum lands a body shot in the clinch.

Ralph Wiggum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tapio Sammalkorpi. A shot in the inside from Wiggum. Wiggum lands a right hand that snaps the head of Sammalkorpi backwards. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sammalkorpi's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Wiggum lands with a left to the head. Wiggum has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Wiggum lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Wiggum prevents the takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round. Sammalkorpi is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Wiggum is keeping busy. Sammalkorpi fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Sammalkorpi goes for a takedown attempt but Wiggum pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Tapio Sammalkorpi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wiggum moves into the clinch. A nice right hand lands inside from Wiggum. Wiggum lands on the inside with an uppercut. Sammalkorpi manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Wiggum wants to stand but Sammalkorpi is controlling his posture from full guard. Sammalkorpi had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wiggum defends it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wiggum wants to stand but Sammalkorpi has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Sammalkorpi is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Wiggum frees his head nicely. Oh but Sammalkorpi has switched to an armbar! Wiggum is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
