PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Shovel Knight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miller has chosen 2pac - Im A Souljah as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ken Miller was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shovel Knight!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ken Miller!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Knight manages to avoid it.
As Miller looks to move away, Knight throws a big counter combo but Miller just gets out of the way.
Knight displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Miller throws out the jab.
Jab, jab by Knight - just one landing.
Knight takes one to the chin there.
Nice body kick there by Knight.
Miller avoids the body shot from Knight.
Miller changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Miller misses the target.
Knight scores with a shot to the body.
Knight thuds his shin into the meat of Miller's side.
Miller thows a left - swing and a miss!
Miller sizes up Knight with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Knight throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Miller drives through with a takedown into guard.
Knight looking to control.
Knight has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Miller trying to control but Knight is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Miller with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Miller working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Miller trying to control the position from guard on top but Knight is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Knight wants to stand up but Miller is controlling him.
Knight pulls Miller in close to his closed guard and prevents Miller from doing any damage or advancing position.
Miller is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Miller postures up in Knight's guard and throws a big left but Knight blocks it.
Miller is in close to Knight's body, working some short punches and elbows.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Miller has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Miller trying to control the position from guard on top but Knight is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Knight holds on and takes a little breather.

Knight has his hands on Miller's head, controlling the position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Miller with a flurry of punches that miss.
Knight wants to stand and escape but Miller is having none of it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Miller misses with a wild body shot.

Knight lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

and Knight counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Ken Miller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice body punch from Knight.
Knight throws a looping overhand right but Miller ducks down to avoid it.
Knight throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Knight lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Knight swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Miller follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Miller takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Miller thows a leg kick but Knight checks it
and Knight counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Miller throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A little feinted left hand from Knight on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Miller throws a low kick but Knight avoids it.
Miller lands with a shot to the body.
Knight tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Miller was well out of range. Poor timing from Knight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Miller blocks the body kick.
We've been told by Knight's head coaches at LOD: Xtreme MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Miller throws the kick towards the body but Knight avoids it.
Knight throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Knight turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Miller shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Knight napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Knight wants to get back to his feet but Miller is dominant here and he's now got Knight's back!
Knight is trying to break free.
Miller lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Knight is trying to stand back up.
Knight grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Knight looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shovel Knight will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Miller shoots in and drives through. Knight sprawls well.

Miller gets a double leg takedown into Knight's guard.


Knight is rocked!
Miller postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Oh Knight is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Miller with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Miller passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Miller is working to tighten his grip on Knight's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Knight has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Miller is really squeezing tight and eventually Knight passes out! Miller breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ken Miller!
Ken Miller is the new bantamweight champion!
Ken Miller decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
