Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Cain Ruttenum! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Halfrid Joesma! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ruttenum stalks Joesma and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Joesma's face. Joesma staggers backwards, shaken. Ruttenum misses with a few strikes there.
Joesma looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Joesma with a poor takedown enabling Ruttenum to counter with a crisp jab. Ruttenum defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Joesma. Ruttenum misses with a few strikes there.
Ruttenum jabs Joesma to the body, keeping him at a distance. Ruttenum looks to land a combination but Joesma avoids it well. No luck with that takedown attempt from Joesma. Cain Ruttenum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Halfrid Joesma. Joesma looks winded! Joesma ducks straight into an uppercut from Ruttenum and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Joesma manages to regain guard straight away.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Joesma working for a triangle but Ruttenum defends it easily.
Ruttenum has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Joesma is proving hard to escape from.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joesma looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ruttenum wants to stand but Joesma has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Ruttenum trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Joesma can do anything to dispel that myth. Ruttenum trying to control but Joesma is working from the bottom. Ruttenum has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Ruttenum has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Joesma is proving hard to escape from. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Joesma escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ruttenum gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Ruttenum has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Joesma is proving hard to escape from. Ruttenum wants to control from the top but Joesma keeps moving. Joesma is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Ruttenum rolls with it to try and escape but Joesma cranks on the arm and Ruttenum is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
