Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
35 - 26 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brandon Marsden! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
37 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rumina Sato! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, William Gold and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marsden tried to score with a low kick but Sato checks it. Marsden lands with an uppercut that bounces Sato off the cage and back into range. Marsden lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. The fighters circle momentarily. Marsden darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Sato throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Marsden on the side of the head. Marsden fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Sato checks it well. Sato cracks a nice hook into Marsden's ribs. We've been hearing reports that Marsden has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Sato checks a low kick from Marsden. A nice side step and Sato releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Sato swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Marsden tries to score with a low kick but Sato moves his leg out of the way. Sato misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Marsden.
Marsden ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Sato waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Marsden. Sato misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sato slips a jab from Marsden. Marsden swings for the body but Sato moves out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Marsden fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sato manages to avoid it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marsden misses with a low kick as Sato jumps back. Sato jabbing away but nothing is landing. Marsden looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger. Sato throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Marsden takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Sato tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Sato takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Sato lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Sato drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Marsden ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sato moves away. Marsden just misses with a punch to the body.
Marsden shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Marsden showed some decent athleticism there. This has been an exciting period of action! Marsden throwing shots but Sato is blocking nicely. Sato told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Marsden seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sato does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sato blocking the ground and pound attempt from Marsden. Marsden takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Sato wants to control but Marsden is keeping busy and won't allow it. Sato tries to get to full guard but Marsden has control of the leg. Sato trying to control here.
Marsden is working for a submission of some sort.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Marsden throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Marsden content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Sato trying to control from the bottom.
Marsden seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sato does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Marsden throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Sato is trying to maintain the position but Marsden is very close to passing his half guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Marsden works his way into full mount! Marsden landing strikes, looking to finish!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Marsden scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Sato?
Sato is squirming around, avoiding Marsden's attempts to control the action. Marsden lands with some strikes. Marsden lands a nice shot to the head. Marsden landing punches. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Marsden lands a nice shot to the head. Marsden scoring with strikes but Sato is staying in there. Marsden punishing his opponent with strikes. Marsden with good strikes from the mount here!
Sato is rocked! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brandon Marsden dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Marsden finds Sato's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Sato flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Marsden lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Sato will be OK.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Brandon Marsden! Brandon Marsden looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'A weakling like you doesn't deserve fists to fight with, now go fade to nothingness!'.
