Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Pugh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Gray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pedro Pugh! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Gray! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gray throws a low kick but Pugh moves out of range easily. Pugh circles away from the clinch attempt and Pugh counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Pugh stays in close to Gray's body and controls the position. Pugh looking to pass the guard. Pugh makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gray is adopting a defensive guard. Pugh throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gray can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pugh controls the pace. Pugh makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Pugh is looking to work some ground and pound but Gray has wrist control. Pugh preventing the sweep. Pugh engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pugh throwing strikes but missing. Pugh trying to control the position from guard on top but Gray is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Gray feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Pugh avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gray accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Pugh striking off his back but it's not causing Gray any problems. Pugh looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Pugh looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Gray passes into half guard.
Gray winds up and cracks Pugh with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gray is keen to just control but Pugh is a slippery customer. Ground and pound from Gray. Gray controlling the pace. Pugh trying to control from the bottom.
Pugh is looking to improve his position.
Gray looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Gray wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pugh keeps working.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Gray throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pugh was covering up waiting for the punch and Gray finishes the takedown easily into guard. Gray looks winded! Gray postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Gray dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Gray misses with the combination.
Gray lands a nice hook to Pugh's body. Pugh takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Gray closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Gray has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Pugh avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Gray. You can see the frustration on Pugh's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Gray is breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gray tries to stand but Pugh is controlling his head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pugh sneaks back into half guard. Pugh is not content to let Gray control the position. Gray might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Pugh haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Gray is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Let's hope that Gray has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Gray is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Pugh tries to counter with a takedown but Gray is quick to defend against it. Gray decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Gray prevents Pugh from improving his position. Pugh keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Gray is working for a submission of some sort.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gray trying to control from half guard but Pugh is working away. Pugh trying to control but Gray postures up.
Pugh wants to improve his position but Gray is controlling well.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. A slow jab from Gray misses its intended target. Gray feints and as Pugh raises his hands in defense, Gray changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Pugh is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Pugh is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Pugh wants to sweep but no luck. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Gray showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
Gray takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Pugh lands with a shot to the body. Pugh tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Gray defends well and Pugh ends up having to push Gray into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Gray pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gray throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pugh was covering up waiting for the punch and Gray finishes the takedown easily into guard. Pugh is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pugh content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Gray is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Gray avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gray can do anything to dispel that myth. Pugh is in close to Gray's body, working some short punches and elbows. Pugh is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Gray is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Gray looking to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Pugh gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Pugh is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Pugh breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Gray shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Pugh trying to control from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pugh desperately trying to maintain half guard. Gray is trying to control. Pugh wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Pugh throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Gray prevents Pugh from improving his position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Pugh is controlling Gray's trapped leg to prevent Gray from advancing to side control. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Pedro Pugh. Well Gray has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
