PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gavin Buckley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bull Howitzer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Howitzer has chosen Bosnian artillery is guided by god as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bull Howitzer!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Buckley has closed the distance and engaged Howitzer in a clinch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Buckley makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

The crowd cheers as Howitzer lands an impressive looking overhand right. Buckley doesn't seem phased though.


It looks like Gavin Buckley has been cut.

Buckley went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Howitzer throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Buckley sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Bull Howitzer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Howitzer gets tackled into the cage by Buckley. Buckley maintains the clinch.

Buckley jumps guard and drags Howitzer to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Buckley manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Buckley stands and steps away. Howitzer gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

A counter left hand to the body from Buckley misses its target.
Howitzer might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Howitzer has had enough of the clinch but Buckley keeps him there for the moment.

Buckley tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Howitzer wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Buckley manages to pass to side control.

Buckley is just content to waste time from the top position. Howitzer takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Buckley drops back, looking for a kneebar! Howitzer looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Howitzer looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Howitzer!

Howitzer cracks Buckley with a big right hand but Buckley just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Buckley is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Howitzer can do to turn this around?

Buckley is looking to regain half guard here but Howitzer keeps moving and retains side control.
Buckley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Howitzer looks up at the clock and then as Buckley takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Howitzer smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Buckley turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Buckley manages to end up in side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Buckley looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Howitzer wants to improve his position but Buckley is controlling well.
Buckley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Howitzer keeps working.
Buckley blocks the strikes from Howitzer.
Buckley working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Buckley takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Buckley is working for a kimura but Howitzer is defending it quite comfortably.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gavin Buckley.
I think Buckley has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
