Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Casey Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nelson Mandela (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Nelson Mandela enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Casey Ryan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nelson Mandela!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mandela shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ryan as he avoids it easily.

Mandela drives through and clinches with Ryan against the cage.
Mandela wants a takedown.
Ryan fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Mandela tries to pull guard but Ryan holds him up against the cage and eventually Mandela drops back down to his feet.
Casey Ryan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nelson Mandela.
Mandela jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ryan walks away with a smile on his face. Mandela gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Mandela moves into the clinch.
Mandela tries for a takedown. No joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mandela wants to break free but Ryan has control.

Ryan shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mandela is trying to defend but Ryan finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Mandela is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ryan seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Ryan slips a nice elbow through Mandela's hands, connecting with Mandela's forehead.
It looks like Ryan is going to stand back up.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ryan lands a nice short elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mandela regains full guard. Nicely done.
Ryan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mandela has a closed guard, preventing Ryan from standing up.

Ryan gets to his feet. Mandela looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Ryan could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Ryan swings for the body but Mandela moves out of range.
Mandela misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Mandela instigates a clinch.

Ryan ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ryan no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Ryan throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Ryan doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Mandela would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mandela postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mandela wants to pass the guard but Ryan is keeping the position.
Mandela pushes down on Ryan's leg and manages to get into half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mandela throws a combination that misses
and Ryan counters with a nice body shot.
No luck for Mandela with that takedown attempt.
Mandela looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ryan is fending him off so far but Mandela persists. Nope, Ryan circles away and we're back to standing.
Ryan went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Ryan lands a really nice looking cross but Mandela seems unphased.

Ryan closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mandela did well to prevent Ryan getting side control.

Ryan seems to be looking for submissions.

Ryan stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Mandela misses with a double jab

and Ryan counters by clinching up.

Ryan decides to pull guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Casey Ryan dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Mandela wants a takedown.

Mandela manages to pull guard.
Ryan wants to stand but Mandela has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Mandela has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ryan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Ryan takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mandela is defended easily by Ryan.

Ryan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Mandela keeps control of Ryan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

The referee is keeping an eye on Ryan - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Ryan's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Mandela is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Ryan frees his head nicely. Oh but Mandela has switched to an armbar! Ryan is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
