The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Holland's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Holland duly obliges.
It looks like Jeff Monson has been cut. Holland scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Monson gets caught flat footed, as Holland shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Monson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Holland is looking to stand up but Monson won't let him. Monson striking off his back. Monson tries to strike from the bottom.
Holland wants to get up but he can't break Monson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Monson has his foot on Holland's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Holland works his way back into a safe position though. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Holland cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Monson wants to control but Holland is having none of it. Monson is trying to reverse the position but instead Holland has taken his back - oops! Holland gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes. Holland looking for the RNC. Monson is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Monson breaks Holland's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Holland tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Monson paws at him with a jab and circles away. Holland tries to clinch up. Monson fails with the takedown so Holland counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Monson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Monson keeping moving, preventing Holland from controlling successfully. Holland is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Holland tries to free his leg and advance position but Monson is retaining full guard. Monson tries to strike from the bottom.

Dan Holland dominated that round. The cut man is working on Jeff Monson's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Holland changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Monson tries to avoid it but Holland manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Monson to the ground. Monson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Monson has a takedown stuffed. Holland tries to bum rush Monson with a series of wild strikes but Monson uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Nice takedown defense from Holland. No joy for Monson on that attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Holland stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeff Monson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Holland throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round. Holland changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Monson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Monson parries the strikes from Holland easily there. Holland is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Monson to escape.
Holland decides to stand back up. Holland tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Holland closes the distance and clinches. Holland scores with a shoulder strike. Monson is looking to break free of the clinch but Holland has double underhooks. Holland successfully pulls guard.
Holland is trying to control the position but Monson postures up. Holland really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Monson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Monson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Holland throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Dan Holland has got the better of the ground game so far. Holland doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Monson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Holland is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Monson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Holland works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Holland keeping moving, preventing Monson from controlling successfully.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Holland scores with a one two! Monson had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Holland tries to close the distance and clinch but Monson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Monson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Monson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Holland preventing the sweep. Monson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Holland gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Monson trying to strike off his back.
Holland trying to control but Monson is working from the bottom. Holland stands and steps away. Monson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Holland moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Holland looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Holland moves in looking to clinch but Monson pushes him off. Monson stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Holland. Monson takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Holland looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Holland trying to control but Monson is working from the bottom. Monson doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Holland sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Monson's guard. Monson trying to control but Holland postures up.

Dan Holland showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Jeff Monson's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Monson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Holland decides to return to a standing position. Holland paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. Holland throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Monson's head. Holland has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Holland doesn't manage to clinch there - Monson circles away.

Monson misses with a takedown and Holland counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Holland. Monson is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Monson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Holland is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Monson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Holland's back instead. Monson wants to control but Holland is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Monson doesn't have the hooks in and Holland manages to turn into his guard.
Holland wants to control from the top but Monson keeps moving. Monson working a defensive guard here.
Monson is really struggling to control Holland but he's trying to hold on to the position.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Excellent takedown into side control there by Holland. Holland is looking to take a break and control but Monson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Monson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Monson sneaks back into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Holland trying to control from Monson's half guard. Monson has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Holland is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Monson has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Holland is looking to defend but Monson has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Holland! Monson pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Holland taps out and this one is all over!
