PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Deangelo Flagg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chico Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flagg kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is What Its Like. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deangelo Flagg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chico Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Flagg shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Flagg is trying to control. Sanchez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Flagg working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Sanchez's thigh. Sanchez counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Flagg wants to pass the guard but Sanchez is keeping the position.

Flagg drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sanchez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sanchez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sanchez!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Flagg dodges the ground and pound from Sanchez.

Sanchez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Flagg is bucking up trying to escape but Sanchez cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Sanchez can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Flagg is looking to escape.
Flagg is trying desperately to improve position.
Sanchez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sanchez is landing with some decent strikes but Flagg is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Chico Sanchez dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Flagg tries to close the distance and clinch but Sanchez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Flagg lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Flagg seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Flagg closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sanchez circles away.

Flagg throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Sanchez's head.

Ouch! a nice leg kick from Sanchez, right into the meat.

Flagg shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Flagg showed some decent athleticism there.

Sanchez has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Flagg is on him like a limpet, forcing Sanchez back against the cage.
Flagg throws a head punch that misses.
Flagg throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Sanchez is trying to push Flagg away but Flagg has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Sanchez is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

That was a close second round but I would say that Deangelo Flagg will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Sanchez darts in looking for a takedown but Flagg gets double underhooks and turns Sanchez into the cage.

Sanchez unleashes a big counter combination but Flagg bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

I would just about give that final round to Chico Sanchez.
I think Sanchez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
