Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Landon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, forrest griffin! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Landon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Landon misses with a takedown attempt - griffin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Landon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has griffin pinned against the cage. griffin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Landon. That's going to take a lot out of him. griffin fails in his attempt to clinch. Landon showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from griffin.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. griffin has taken the fight to the clinch.
Landon goes for a takedown attempt but griffin pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

griffin looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. griffin wants to sweep here but Landon controlling him for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. griffin wants to get back to his feet but Landon is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Landon is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. griffin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Landon prevents griffin from getting back to his feet. Landon thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if griffin can do anything to dispel that myth. Landon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Landon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Landon thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Landon is breathing heavily. griffin wants to stand up but Landon is controlling him. Landon is looking to work some ground and pound but griffin has wrist control. Landon drops back looking for a leg! griffin is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and griffin manages to kick Landon off! Landon jumps back into griffin's guard.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Landon shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says griffin as he avoids it easily. Left hook, right uppercut from griffin. griffin misses with a two punch combination.
Landon takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. griffin looks to land a combination but Landon avoids it well. griffin is looking to clinch. griffin connects with a nice looking jab.
griffin stuffs the takedown. griffin moves into range and clinches up with Landon. Landon stops a takedown attempt from griffin.

Landon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. griffin tries to avoid it but Landon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag griffin to the ground. griffin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. griffin wants to clinch. Landon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has griffin pinned against the cage. griffin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fight stays on the outside here - griffin looks like he's thinking about clinching though. griffin gets in close and instigates a clinch. Landon decides to pull guard. Landon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. griffin tries to stand but Landon is controlling from the bottom. griffin tries to free his leg and advance position but Landon is retaining full guard. Landon looking for a sweep. Not yet Landon, not yet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

griffin looks to land a combination. Landon sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Jim Landon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Landon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has griffin pinned against the cage. griffin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. griffin throws a series of strikes that have Landon backpedaling.
Landon drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Landon postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
griffin wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Landon tries for a kimura but griffin is defending well. griffin is trying to buck Landon off. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Landon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. griffin wants to control but Landon postures up. griffin holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage. Landon tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Landon working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
griffin wants to control but Landon postures up. Landon cracks griffin with an elbow. That is naaassty.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Landon is working to tighten is grip on griffin's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. griffin has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Landon is really squeezing tight and eventually griffin passes out! Landon breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
