Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Boyd McGuire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGuire comes to the cage accompanied by Five Finger Death Punch - The Way Of The Fist. Alvarez has chosen Doom as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 9 - 2, fighting out of New York, Boyd McGuire! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Alvarez! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Richard Clark and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McGuire fails with the takedown. A looping hook to the body misses from McGuire. Alvarez does a little dance to reset his feet. Alvarez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. McGuire fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Alvarez throws out a counter right but McGuire avoids it with no problem. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Boyd McGuire. That's going to take a lot out of him. McGuire misses with a looping right. Alvarez checks the leg kick. A head kick misses from Alvarez. Alvarez explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McGuire clinches. Nice elbow from Alvarez. Alvarez struggles to land a body shot inside as McGuire controls his hands.

McGuire lands with a nice body kick. McGuire moves out of range of the strikes. McGuire feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Alvarez's calf. McGuire lands a lovely overhand right. McGuire misses with a low kick as Alvarez jumps back. McGuire throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. McGuire attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Alvarez looks to land a body kick but McGuire moved away. And McGuire counters with a quick kick to the body but Alvarez blocks it. McGuire looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Alvarez lands a head shot. Alvarez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. McGuire thows a body kick. Alvarez tries to catch it but that hurt him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Alvarez looks for the body kick but McGuire saw that one coming. Alvarez thumps McGuire with a low kick. Alvarez misses with a body kick. Alvarez moves out of range as McGuire throws a body kick.
McGuire lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Alvarez at a distance.
Alvarez moves out of range of the body kick. McGuire backing away here, and Alvarez unleashes a leg kick that just misses. Alvarez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McGuire sees it coming and avoids it easily. Alvarez throws a leg kick and McGuire counters with a left and a right that stings Alvarez. McGuire lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
McGuire fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Alvarez has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. A head kick misses from McGuire. Alvarez throws a sloppy head kick and McGuire counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. McGuire is standing up over Alvarez. Alvarez looks to escape but McGuire dives into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McGuire working the ground and pound but Alvarez is defending the strikes. Both fighters take a look at the clock. Alvarez is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alvarez parries the strikes from McGuire easily there. McGuire is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Alvarez to escape.
McGuire wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alvarez keeps working. Alvarez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McGuire wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Alvarez is looking to work his way out of this bad position but McGuire is controlling him well. McGuire moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. McGuire working away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McGuire scoring with punches from side control. Alvarez is looking to regain half guard here but McGuire keeps moving and retains side control. Alvarez struggling a bit here. McGuire working the head with strikes. Alvarez can't do much from the bottom here. McGuire working the ground and pound from side control. McGuire lands some shots froms side control. Alvarez tries to get back to half guard but can't. McGuire misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Alvarez wants to control but McGuire postures up. McGuire trying to control the position but Alvarez is working away. Alvarez is trying to control McGuire's posture but McGuire avoids it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Boyd McGuire dominated that round. That's time! McGuire's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
McGuire lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Alvarez doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. McGuire misses with a body shot.

As McGuire backs off Alvarez throws a huge counter combo but McGuire manages to avoid it all. McGuire misses with a hook. McGuire keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
An attempted straight right counter from McGuire misses the target. McGuire bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. McGuire half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Alvarez looks to score with a jab to the body but McGuire is just out of range. McGuire attempts a counter takedown but Alvarez avoids it well and moves away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McGuire tried to score with a low kick but Alvarez checks it. McGuire shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Alvarez's guard. Alvarez wants to stand but McGuire is controlling the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alvarez is looking to stand back up but McGuire counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Alvarez. McGuire has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Alvarez is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but McGuire is staying active. Alvarez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McGuire. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Alvarez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. McGuire controlling the action here. McGuire not landing any meaningful shots this time. Alvarez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Alvarez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McGuire is working away from the top position though. McGuire is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alvarez can do to turn this around? Alvarez has his hands clasped together around McGuire's back. He's all about the action. Alvarez wants to improve his position but McGuire is controlling well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. McGuire missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Alvarez tries to get to full guard but McGuire has control of the leg. McGuire is working for a kimura but Alvarez is defending it quite comfortably.
Alvarez is trying to get back to full guard. McGuire working Alvarez over with strikes. Alvarez has hold of McGuire's hands but McGuire slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Alvarez pushes McGuire off looking to stand but McGuire dives back in and keeps control.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Alvarez dodges the ground and pound from McGuire. The ground and pound from McGuire seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Alvarez tries to escape but McGuire is in control. Alvarez tries to buck McGuire off but McGuire is having none of it. McGuire lands a few punches from side control. McGuire is looking to take a break and control but Alvarez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Alvarez is positioning himself to get back to half guard. McGuire in side control lands a decent elbow. Boyd McGuire overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. McGuire staying calm. McGuire scores with punches from side control.

Alvarez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, McGuire asserts his dominance and retains side control. Alvarez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McGuire wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. McGuire is chipping away with strikes.

McGuire scores with a decent looking hook. McGuire bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Alvarez blocks a head kick by McGuire.
Alvarez throws a push kick but McGuire slaps the foot to one side. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McGuire throws a leg kick that misses. McGuire fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Alvarez appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Boyd McGuire seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McGuire lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice shot by Alvarez. McGuire jabbing away but nothing is landing. Alvarez pulls out of a head kick attempt.
McGuire lands a jab to Alvarez's midsection. A head kick misses from Alvarez. McGuire gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. McGuire tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Alvarez's elbow. The referee is keeping an eye on McGuire - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

That's two minutes gone in the round. McGuire is pulling down on Alvarez's head to control his posture. McGuire has a closed guard, preventing Alvarez from standing up. Alvarez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Alvarez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. McGuire shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alvarez as he avoids it easily. Alvarez stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from McGuire. Alvarez buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! McGuire slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. McGuire blocks a jab. McGuire seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McGuire misses the body punch and Alvarez counters with a thumping low kick. McGuire throws out a loose jab but Alvarez uses good head movement to avoid it. McGuire scores with a shot to the body.
McGuire connects with a single shot there. Alvarez misses with a body kick. A kick lands to the mid section there for McGuire. Boyd McGuire is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. McGuire throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Michael Alvarez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Jab, jab by McGuire - just one landing. McGuire blocks the body kick.
McGuire throws a nice outside leg kick. McGuire tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Alvarez paws at him with a jab and circles away. McGuire dodges the punch combination from Alvarez.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Alvarez takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Alvarez is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. McGuire takes a swing at Alvarez's ribcage but misses. McGuire shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Alvarez as he jumps to the side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Boyd McGuire. That's going to take a lot out of him. McGuire throws out a token jab with nothing on it. McGuire feints and as Alvarez raises his hands in defense, McGuire changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Alvarez being controlled here, momentarily. McGuire wants to control from the top but Alvarez keeps moving.
And that's the end of the fight! Boyd McGuire showed his dominance in that final round. Well McGuire has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
