Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mega Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julian Kong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Mega Pope has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mega Pope!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Julian Kong!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A shot to the liver by Kong. Beautiful body shot.
Pope looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Pope scores with a nice right hand.

Kong moves into the clinch.
Kong is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Pope stalling in the clinch.
Kong will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Pope up against the cage.
Kong goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pope prevents it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kong blocks an uppercut.
Pope lands a body punch in the clinch.

Pope breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Kong fails with a takedown attempt.
As Kong tries to get set, Pope tries to push him back and clinch up but Kong manages to avoid the attempt.

Kong is trying to drag Pope to the mat but Pope just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Kong told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
Mega Pope has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julian Kong.
Pope prevents the takedown attempt.
Kong blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Pope using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Kong has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Pope lands a damaging elbow.


It looks like Julian Kong has been cut.
Pope tries a knee to the head but Kong blocks it.

Kong escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kong misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pope attempts a counter takedown but Kong avoids it well and moves away.
Pope connects with a solid leg kick.
Kong circles away from the clinch attempt.
Pope looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Kong darts in and clinches Pope up against the cage.
Kong jumps guard but Pope turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
A left hand lands to the body for Pope.
Pope lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Pope prevents a takedown attempt there.
Pope has been working on his balance at Hilo MMA Academy , so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Kong.
Kong is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Pope is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Kong slows down the pace here.

Pope gets control of Kong's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pope will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Kong is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Pope wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Pope tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Kong sitting in guard here, content to control.
Pope is adopting a defensive guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mega Pope dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Julian Kong's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kong shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pope defends it nicely.
It looked like Pope wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Kong stuffs the takedown.
Kong is looking to clinch but Pope is avoiding it.

Kong dives in and scores a takedown into Pope's guard.
Pope tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Kong lying in Pope's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Pope decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Kong taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mega Pope!
Mega Pope decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
