PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Don Julio Cesar Chavez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Potter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Potter is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Cherry Pie by Warrant. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No joy there for Potter, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Cesar Chavez lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Cesar Chavez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Potter moves away. The fight moves into the clinch position. I was talking to Cesar Chavez 's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Potter lands an uppercut. Cesar Chavez jumps guard and drags Potter to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Cesar Chavez has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Potter doesn't defend quickly enough and Cesar Chavez has managed to lock this one up! Can Potter escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Cesar Chavez on a fantastic submission victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Don Julio Cesar Chavez ! Don Julio Cesar Chavez retains his welterweight title! Don Julio Cesar Chavez tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
