Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Don Juan Matus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
24 - 11 - 3, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sergey Keosayan! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Phil Schofield and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matus throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Keosayan looks to land a body kick but Matus moved away. Matus uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Keosayan. Matus on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Matus misses with a lunging right hand
and Keosayan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Matus won't be happy with that. Keosayan trying to control the position but Matus is working away. Keosayan tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Keosayan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Matus keeps working. Matus is looking to reverse the position. Matus sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Matus wants to control but Keosayan is keeping busy and won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matus makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Matus. Matus keeping moving, preventing Keosayan from controlling successfully. That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Keosayan with a flurry of punches that miss. Keosayan drops back, looking for a kneebar! Matus looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Matus looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Matus! A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. You can see the frustration on Keosayan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Matus wants to control but Keosayan is keeping him busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Keosayan's face as Matus controls the position. Keosayan tries to buck Matus off but Matus is having none of it. Keosayan is not content to let Matus control the position. Keosayan keeps Matus under control for a moment.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Matus misses with a body kick. Keosayan has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Keosayan throws a right hand that misses
and Matus counters with a nice uppercut. Keosayan blocks a head kick by Matus.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Keosayan checks a leg kick nicely. The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Matus looks to land a combination but Keosayan avoids it well. Keosayan throws a push kick but Matus slaps the foot to one side. Keosayan lands with an uppercut that bounces Matus off the cage and back into range. Keosayan goes for a double leg but Matus avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Matus continues to drive forward. Keosayan throws a poor cross that misses
and Matus counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Keosayan avoids a kick to the body.
Good leg kick by Matus there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Keosayan ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Keosayan lands a front kick. This has been an exciting period of action! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Keosayan moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Matus bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Matus rushes Keosayan and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Don Juan Matus will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Matus throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Keosayan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Matus is on top in guard.
Keosayan looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Matus puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Sergey Keosayan has got the better of the ground game so far. Keosayan wants to improve his position but Matus is controlling well.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Matus working away. Keosayan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Matus wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Keosayan is being controlled here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matus is looking to take a break and control but Keosayan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Keosayan wants to control but Matus postures up. Keosayan is letting Matus control him for a moment. Keosayan gets back to half guard. Keosayan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matus is working away from the top position though. Matus takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Keosayan won't allow Matus to pass to mount. Matus with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Keosayan wants to get back to full guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Keosayan throws a nice outside leg kick. Keosayan fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Matus has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Keosayan connects with an inside leg kick. A nice leg kick lands there from Keosayan. Sergey Keosayan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Keosayan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Matus but Matus pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Keosayan doesn't succeed with the takedown and Matus counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Keosayan on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Matus. Matus obviously looking to wear him down.

That's going to take a lot out of Sergey Keosayan. Keosayan jabbing away but nothing is landing. Keosayan closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Keosayan ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Matus ducks under a wild hook from Keosayan. A telegraphed right hand from Keosayan misses the target. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Keosayan takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Keosayan misses with a hook. Keosayan throws a body kick that misses and Matus cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Keosayan lands with a right hand. Keosayan takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Keosayan thumps Matus with a low kick. Keosayan misses with a low kick.
Matus appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Matus swings for the body but Keosayan moves out of range.
Matus throws a body shot but no joy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Sergey Keosayan will probably get the nod - 10:9. That's time! Matus's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Keosayan throws a wild body kick that Matus sees coming a mile off. Good exchange - Keosayan coming out on top. Keosayan with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Matus to score with a decent uppercut. Keosayan misses with an attempted mid kick.
Matus is looking to counter with head kicks. Keosayan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Matus pinned against the cage. Matus gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Matus checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Matus fails with an attempt to clinch.

and Matus counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Don Juan Matus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Matus thumps Keosayan with a low kick. A left lands for Matus.
Keosayan is rocked! Matus scores with a hook to the body. Keosayan takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Keosayan throws a half hearted mid kick. Matus tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Matus dips to his left and cracks Keosayan with an uppercut! Keosayan is still on wobbly legs! Can Matus finish him? Keosayan misses with a straight left. Keosayan lands a really nice looking cross but Matus seems unphased.
Matus circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Keosayan to the canvas! Keosayan doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Matus keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
