The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Diaz throws a nice looking combination but Mahrous bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Mahrous tries to counter with a clinch but Diaz shakes him off and moves away.
Carlos Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diaz lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Good exchange - Diaz coming out on top.
Diaz throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Diaz misses with the body kick
and Mahrous counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mahrous.
Mahrous thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Diaz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mahrous on the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mahrous keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Diaz's head.
Mahrous drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Mahrous seems to have locked his on tight now - Diaz screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Mahrous, as he picks up the win!

Abdul Mahrous was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
