PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gil Casey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryu Hoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gil Casey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryu Hoshi!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Taro Takaoka and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hoshi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Casey is staying active underneath Hoshi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Casey could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hoshi with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Casey manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Casey has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Hoshi has passed into side control.
Casey tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Casey is trying to control Hoshi's posture but Hoshi avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Casey is being controlled here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hoshi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Casey regains half guard.
Casey is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hoshi thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Casey's head.
Hoshi works his way into side control.
Hoshi fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Hoshi throwing shots but missing, from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hoshi decides to stand up, so the ref orders Casey to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hoshi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hoshi lands in his opponent's guard.
Hoshi trying to move into half guard but instead Casey has managed to sweep!

Hoshi wants to stand up but Casey is controlling him.

Casey has gone for a leg lock! Hoshi slips out almost immediately though and dives into Casey's guard.

Hoshi slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Casey throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Hoshi controlling from side mount.
Hoshi throws an elbow but Casey slips to the side and avoids it well.

Hoshi decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Casey gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hoshi to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Hoshi throwing strikes from guard but Casey blocks nicely.
Hoshi not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryu Hoshi dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Hoshi throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Casey was covering up waiting for the punch and Hoshi finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Casey has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hoshi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Casey looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hoshi is one step ahead there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hoshi pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Casey is keeping the position for now.

Casey working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Hoshi.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hoshi trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Casey keeping moving, preventing Hoshi from controlling successfully.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Casey is on top in guard.


Hoshi looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hoshi has his hands on Casey's head, controlling the position.
Hoshi working a defensive guard here.
Hoshi seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Casey won't allow Hoshi to sweep him here.
Hoshi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hoshi is still trying to improve position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Ryu Hoshi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hoshi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Hoshi seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Still in half guard, Hoshi seems content to control.
Hoshi wants to take a breather but Casey is having none of it.
Hoshi misses with a head shot. Casey uses the momentum to regain guard.
Ryu Hoshi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hoshi throwing strikes from guard but Casey blocks nicely.
Hoshi trying to control but Casey is working from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryu Hoshi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Hoshi tries to keep at a distance but Casey has taken the fight into the clinch.
Casey tries for a takedown. No joy.

Hoshi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hoshi throws a head kick that looked like it stung.


It looks like Gil Casey has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hoshi shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Casey is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hoshi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Casey is just riding it out for now. Hoshi eventually gives up the hold.

Hoshi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hoshi looks to land a strike but Casey avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hoshi has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Casey in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Hoshi is looking for a triangle but Casey pushes his legs off easily.
Casey keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hoshi's head.
Hoshi has control of Casey's left arm, preventing Casey from doing any damage.
Casey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hoshi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Casey is controlling him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hoshi gets a takedown into half guard.

Hoshi stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Hoshi looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Casey wants to improve his position but Hoshi is controlling well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ryu Hoshi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Hoshi winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
