The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maukuja avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gil Walton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walton misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Maukuja counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Walton closes the distance and clinches up with Maukuja, looking for a takedown. Walton pushes Maukuja against the cage but Maukuja circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Walton fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Maukuja throws a head kick but Walton moves out of range.

Maukuja shoots in and drives through. Walton sprawls well.
Maukuja will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Walton wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Walton closes the distance and pushes Maukuja back into the cage.

Walton manages to break the clinch.

Walton shoots in and bounces Maukuja off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Walton throws a strike but Maukuja rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Walton wants to stand up but Maukuja is controlling him.
Maukuja must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Walton has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Maukuja should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Walton has tightened it up now! Maukuja should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
