Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Antoni Hong! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peter Smith! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hong throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Peter Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hong throws a sloppy head kick and Smith moves out of range easily. Smith throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Smith cracks Hong with a right hand to the side of the head. Hong misses with a wild combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hong stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Smith. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Smith crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Hong - the referee stops the clock and Smith gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Hong. Smith manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Hong misses with a shot to the body and Smith counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Hong! Smith tries to move to mount but Hong blocks the move with his legs. Hong managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Smith.
Hong is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control. Smith working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Hong is trying to escape the position but Smith is controlling the position. Hong manages to get back to half guard. Smith looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith is looking to take a break and control but Hong is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hong's head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smith is working for a submission of some sort.
Hong won't allow Smith to pass to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Smith is nestled in close to Hong, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith trying to control from half guard but Hong is working away. Smith stalling away here and it's allowed Hong to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Hong keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully. Smith working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Smith in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Smith throws a big right hand that misses. Hong has Smith pulled in close to control his posture.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hong throws a head kick that half lands.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith checks the leg kick nicely there.
Smith changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Hong looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Smith uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hong. A head kick misses from Hong. Smith is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Hong pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Despite the aggression on Smith's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Smith's jab looks to have found its range, popping Hong under the eye. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Hong scores with a leg kick.
Smith scores with a jab to the jaw. Horrible takedown attempt by Smith or perhaps it was just good defense by Hong, which made it look bad. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Peter Smith dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Hong tries to land a leg kick but Smith saw it coming and moves away.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Smith, as that shot connected.
Smith has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight. Smith misses with a right hand and Smith takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Antoni Hong is winning the standup battle so far. Hong takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Smith looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hong is fending him off so far but Smith persists. Nope, Hong circles away and we're back to standing. Hong appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Smith tries for a takedown but Hong circles away easily and Hong counters with a straight right hand. Smith takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Hong takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Sloppy strikes from Smith. Those never looked like landing. Smith lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Smith has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Hong. Hong takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Hong gets the takedown into side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hong working away. Hong is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Smith's shoulder. That is not cool. Hong tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Hong trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom. Hong is really struggling to control Smith but he's trying to hold on to the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Smith misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hong.
Smith misses with a left hand and Hong counters with a low kick, right behind Smith 's knee. Smith feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hongs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith misses with a straight right. A slapping leg kick lands for Hong.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Smith lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hong has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hong and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Smith lands a nice looking body shot.

Smith with a lazy takedown attempt and Hong counters with a series of strikes. Smith will be more careful next time no doubt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Smith throws a hook to the side of Hong's head but Hong sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Hong throws a quick counter kick to the body but Smith avoids it. Hong tries to clinch up but Smith circles away and keeps his distance. Smith misses with a few strikes there.

Hong works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Hong uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Smith has time to react. Smith takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. The fighters circling - Smith throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Hong keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

and Hong connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Smith lands with a thumping leg kick.

Smith will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

It looked like Hong was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Smith.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Hong counters with a nice low kick that buckles Smith's knee momentarily. Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Hong counters with a lovely shot to the body. Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Hong lands a two punch combo.
Hong lands a big head kick that sends Smith tumbling to the mat! Hong takes a step backwards and waves Smith back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Smith is rocked!
It looks like Peter Smith has been cut. Hong is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hong closes the distance looking for a takedown. Smith stuffs it but Hong still has hold of him. Hong picks Smith up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. Hong slams Smith to the floor and that's really hurt Smith - he doesn't know where he is! Hong throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!
