Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Omari Alleyne Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 38 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sangram Singh! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick from Alleyne Jones lands but Singh takes it in his stride. Singh shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Alleyne Jones pinned against the cage. Alleyne Jones gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Alleyne Jones thinks about countering with a body kick. Alleyne Jones connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Singh's hands. Alleyne Jones lands a head kick. Singh smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Alleyne Jones has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Montreal Fighter's Gym (5* Sparring) in the buildup to the fight. A lazy left from Alleyne Jones finds it's target. Alleyne Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Singh trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Singh throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Alleyne Jones escapes and throws Singh's legs to the side, diving into side control! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Alleyne Jones wants to stand but Singh has his arm trapped. Alleyne Jones working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Singh is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Singh wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Alleyne Jones is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Singh's shoulder. That is not cool. Singh looks to move to half guard but instead Alleyne Jones has passed into mount! Damn! Singh sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Alleyne Jones looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Alleyne Jones is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Singh defends it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Singh punching from the bottom.
Alleyne Jones thows a huge punch but Singh dodges it nicely.
Singh wants to get back to full guard. Singh makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Singh. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Alleyne Jones slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Singh is looking for a sweep. Alleyne Jones decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alleyne Jones dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Singh. That did some damage! Alleyne Jones shoots in and bounces Singh off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Singh working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Alleyne Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Alleyne Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Alleyne Jones passes Singh's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Alleyne Jones not doing much here.
Alleyne Jones tries to stand but can't do so whilst Singh controls his leg. Alleyne Jones perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Singh looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Alleyne Jones pushes past his half guard into mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Singh really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Alleyne Jones looking to secure an arm triangle but Singh defends it well. Singh is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Alleyne Jones is landing with some decent strikes but Singh is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Alleyne Jones looking to ground and pound but Singh is blocking nicely. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Alleyne Jones lands a nice shot to the head. Alleyne Jones tries to control but Singh wriggling away. Singh is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Singh wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. Alleyne Jones tightening his grip on Singh, looking for the choke. Singh is trying to defend against the choke here but Alleyne Jones has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Alleyne Jones Tightens the hold and Singh taps out furiously! Alleyne Jones displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
