Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Octavio Schultz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uriel Ferdinand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Octavio Schultz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Uriel Ferdinand! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Joseph Jones and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schultz throws a sloppy head kick and Ferdinand moves out of range easily. Ferdinand blocks a head kick by Schultz.
Ferdinand swings for the body but Schultz moves out of range.
Schultz throws a head kick that misses. Ferdinand shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Schultz has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Ferdinand has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Ferdinand manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Schultz postures up in Ferdinand's guard and throws a big left but Ferdinand blocks it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ferdinand is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Schultz could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Schultz is controlling Ferdinand's trapped leg to prevent Ferdinand from advancing to side control. Ferdinand wants to stand but Schultz has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ferdinand is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Ferdinand prevents Schultz from improving his position. Schultz trying to control here.
Ferdinand looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Schultz is not content to let Ferdinand control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Schultz is looking for a sweep. Ferdinand is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Ferdinand is keen to just control but Schultz is a slippery customer. Ferdinand looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Schultz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Ferdinand is stalling here. Schultz is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Ferdinand seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Schultz has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schultz working away. Schultz throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Ferdinand is looking for a sweep. You can see the frustration on Ferdinand's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Ferdinand avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Schultz. Schultz scores with a couple of short elbows.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Schultz creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Ferdinand struggling a bit here. Ferdinand tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Schultz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Schultz working away. Schultz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Ferdinand sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Schultz working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Ferdinand wants to control but Schultz postures up. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Schultz misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Octavio Schultz dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Schultz lands with a kick to the temple. Ferdinand shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
It looks like Uriel Ferdinand has been cut. Ferdinand looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Schultz! Schultz bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Schultz throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Ferdinand shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ferdinand showed some decent athleticism there. This has been an exciting period of action! Schultz is trying to get back to full guard. Schultz has his hands clasped together around Ferdinand's back. He's all about the action.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ferdinand is working for an americana but Schultz has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Ferdinand was thinking about the submission. Schultz has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Schultz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ferdinand can do to turn this around?
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Ferdinand postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Ferdinand trying to control the position from guard on top but Schultz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Schultz gets in close and instigates a clinch. Schultz drops down looking for an ankle pick but Ferdinand pulls his leg out and moves away.
Schultz throws a head kick that misses. Schultz clinches. Ferdinand pulls guard effortlessly. Ferdinand is trying to keep Schultz in close.
Schultz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ferdinand has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Schultz has managed to get both his arms back between Ferdinand's legs - danger averted.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ferdinand is looking to stand up but Schultz isn't so interested in that idea. Ferdinand throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Ferdinand is looking for a triangle here but Schultz uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Schultz throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Schultz working the head and body with strikes. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ferdinand is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Schultz is putting a hurting on Ferdinand here, landing some big shots from side control. Ferdinand trying to remain calm as Schultz controls from the top position. Schultz in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Schultz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ferdinand on the ground. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ferdinand is trying to control Schultz's posture but Schultz avoids it. Schultz working the head and body with strikes. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schultz controlling his opponent. Ferdinand tries to hold on but Schultz postures up.

Ferdinand takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Schultz scoring with strikes but Ferdinand is staying in there. Ferdinand tries to lock up and control but Schultz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ferdinand is trying to escape the mount.
Schultz landing strikes from the mount and Ferdinand is in trouble! Schultz cracks Ferdinand with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Schultz connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Schultz mounts Ferdinand! Really nice guard pass there! Ferdinand sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Ferdinand has hold of Schultz's hands but Schultz slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schultz working the head and body with strikes. Schultz landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Schultz slows the pace down in half guard. Schultz takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Ferdinand taking some punishment here, with Schultz in his half guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Schultz lands a nice short elbow. Ferdinand gets back to full guard.
Octavio Schultz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Schultz has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Schultz in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Schultz is working Ferdinand over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Schultz is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
