Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rickie Hammond! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hung Solo! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shigeki Sano and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Solo closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Solo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Hammond is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Solo. The fight moves into the clinch position. Solo wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hammond has him pressed against the cage. Hammond breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Solo clinches with his opponent.
Solo being controlled against the cage. Hammond is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Solo can't get the takedown.
Solo wants to take the fight to the mat but Hammond manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Solo wants a takedown but no success here.
Rickie Hammond has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hung Solo. Hammond breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Solo drives through and clinches with Hammond against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hammond turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Hammond manages to end up in side control. The referee asks Hammond politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hammond prefers to stall for the moment though. Hammond stands up and we're back to a striking position. Solo looks winded! Hammond slips a jab and a cross from Solo.
Hammond fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Solo sprawls well initially but Hammond persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Solo tries to kick Hammond off in order to stand up. Hammond Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Solo wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Hammond has hold of Solo's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Solo seems comfortable defending it but Hammond has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Solo is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Solo is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Hammond couldn't care less - he's delighted!
