Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Terry Gonon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Bombay! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Alyssa Summers and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gonon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bombay but Bombay pushes him off and we're back to square one. Gonon misses with a takedown attempt - Bombay sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Bombay tries to keep at a distance but Gonon has taken the fight into the clinch. Gonon managing to block the knees to the body from Bombay.
Gonon tries to score a body lock takedown but Bombay shows good agility there to stay on his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Terry Gonon. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gonon is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Bombay is defending well. Bombay gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Gonon.
A battle for position here, against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bombay has Gonon pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Bombay pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Gonon tumbling to the mat - Bombay dives into Gonon's guard. Bombay slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gonon keeping full guard, as Bombay tries to pass. Bombay stays in close to Gonon's body and controls the position. Bombay really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gonon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gonon is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bombay is aware though and is defending well. Gonon keeping moving, preventing Bombay from controlling successfully. Gonon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Bombay must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Gonon working for submissions but it's allowed Bombay to get to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Gonon is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Lovelair Muay Thai/MMA that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bombay connects with a nice short shot to Gonon's temple. Bombay is keen to just control but Gonon is a slippery customer. Bombay is controlling the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Let's hope that Bombay has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Bombay drops an elbow to the side of Gonon's head. Gonon is looking to improve his position.
Bombay wants to control but Gonon is keeping him busy. Gonon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Bombay is looking to take a break and control but Gonon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Bombay working Gonon over with strikes. Gonon looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Gonon has hold of Bombay's hands but Bombay slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Gonon is concentrating on defense, preventing Bombay from advancing position. Bombay wants to control but Gonon is keeping him busy. Gonon gets back to full guard.
Bombay is working Gonon over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bombay won't allow Gonon to sweep him here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Bombay is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Gonon is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Bombay looking to pass the guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Matt Bombay dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gonon is defended easily by Bombay. Gonon looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bombay is fending him off so far but Gonon persists. Nope, Bombay circles away and we're back to standing. Bombay clinches up against the cage. The referee is keeping an eye on Bombay - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Bombay has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Bombay makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Gonon is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Bombay pulls him back up using the underhooks. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Terry Gonon. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gonon has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Bombay is trying to keep an underhook but Gonon manages to get the takedown into half guard. Gonon is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bombay sees it coming and defends easily. Gonon prevents Bombay from improving his position. Gonon seems to be working for a kimura but Bombay defends the submission attempt. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Bombay. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gonon missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Gonon is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Bombay has managed to free his arm - good work. Gonon is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Bombay is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Bombay regains full guard. Nicely done. Gonon pushes down on Bombay's leg and manages to get into half guard. Gonon is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Bombay has one foot on Gonon's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Gonon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Gonon shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bombay as he avoids it easily.

It looks like Terry Gonon has been cut. Bombay with a jab. Bombay moves into the clinch. Bombay lands a body punch in the clinch. Bombay is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Gonon is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Bombay lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Gonon tries for a takedown but Bombay manages to get underhooks.
Gonon has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bombay avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Bombay avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bombay closes the distance and pushes Gonon back into the cage. Gonon is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Gonon tries for a takedown but Bombay manages to get underhooks.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bombay prevents the takedown attempt.

Matt Bombay showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Terry Gonon's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
