Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dmitry Boitsov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Shaisa Koal! The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A low kick from Koal is predictable there so Boitsov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Boitsov wants to pass the guard but Koal is keeping the position. Boitsov drops back looking for a leg! Koal is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Koal manages to kick Boitsov off! Boitsov jumps back into Koal's guard. Boitsov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Boitsov postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boitsov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Koal swivels though and keeps the full guard. Boitsov trying to control but Koal is working from the bottom. Boitsov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Koal trying to control the position.
Boitsov's corner is telling him to maintain position. Boitsov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Boitsov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Boitsov wants to control from the top but Koal keeps moving. Boitsov content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Boitsov passes Koal's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Boitsov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Koal keeps working. Boitsov controlling the action here. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Boitsov lands a nice short elbow. Boitsov seems to be working for a kimura but Koal defends the submission attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boitsov is taking a breather. Koal says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Boitsov is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Boitsov controlling the pace. Boitsov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Koal defends it well. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Koal can do anything to dispel that myth. Boitsov is keen to just control but Koal is a slippery customer. Koal trying to get back to full guard but Boitsov takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Boitsov looking to secure an arm triangle but Koal defends it well. Boitsov takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Koal tries to improve his position but Boitsov has taken his back! Boitsov has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Koal tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Boitsov pushes Koal away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
