PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Erin Malone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlo Rizzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Erin Malone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carlo Rizzi!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Columbo Gatti and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rizzi gets the takedown into side control.

Rizzi is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Malone is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Malone might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and Malone counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rizzi won't be happy with that.

Rizzi sneaks out the side door and pushes Malone away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Malone could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Rizzi shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Malone is trying to defend but Rizzi finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Malone is controlling Rizzi's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Malone makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Malone.
Rizzi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rizzi wants to pass the guard but Malone is keeping the position.

Rizzi would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Carlo Rizzi dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Rizzi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Malone did well to prevent Rizzi getting side control.

Rizzi is landing with some decent strikes but Malone is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Malone's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Rizzi gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Malone regains guard.
Rizzi wants to pass the guard but Malone is keeping the position.
Rizzi is in close to Malone's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Carlo Rizzi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Rizzi wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Malone, who protects the arm well.
Malone tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rizzi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Rizzi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Malone keeps working.
Malone is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Rizzi off and has taken his back!
Carlo Rizzi has got the better of the ground game so far.

Rizzi is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Malone gets his way!

Malone is not going to allow Rizzi to sit and survive in this position.

Malone has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Rizzi! Can he survive? No! He's out! Malone gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
