PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Micah Hays (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Olson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Andrew Olson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Micah Hays!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andrew Olson!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Olson or perhaps it was just good defense by Hays, which made it look bad.
Olson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hays fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Olson.
Olson on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Hays. Hays obviously looking to wear him down.
Hays has been working on his boxing with his coaches at LOD: Lightning Kicks (MaxID280K) in the buildup to the fight.

Hays gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Hays gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Olson.
Hays misses with a body punch.
Hays misses with a punch on the inside.
Hays throws a head punch that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A short body shot lands from Hays as the two fighters clinch.

Hays breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Olson walks forward, straight into a front kick from Hays.

Olson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Olson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Olson stops Hays from getting back to his feet.
Hays wants to get back to full guard.
Olson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Olson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hays has hold of Olson's hands but Olson slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Olson is trying to control. Hays wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Olson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Olson misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Hays is trying to get back to half guard.
Olson trying to control the position but Hays is working away.
Olson works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Hays tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Olson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Olson working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Hays tries to bench press Olson off him but Olson keeps the position.
Olson grinds an elbow into Hays's temple.
Olson creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Hays gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Hays is pressing down on Olson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Olson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hays swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Olson has gone for a leg lock! Hays slips out almost immediately though and dives into Olson's guard.

Hays got a little sloppy there for a moment and Olson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hays has managed to get both his arms back between Olson's legs - danger averted.

Hays gets to his feet. Olson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Olson throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Hays's head.
Hays fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Micah Hays will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Hays lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Hays cracks Olson with a good jab.
Olson scores with a jab.
Hays chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Hays pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Olson lands a big head kick that sends Hays tumbling to the mat! Olson takes a step backwards and waves Hays back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Andrew Olson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hays tries to close the distance and clinch up but Olson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hays moves forwards but Olson connects with a nice, crisp jab.


Hays is rocked!
Hays on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Oh Hays is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
A looping hook to the body misses from Olson. Hays does a little dance to reset his feet.
Hays seems to have got his legs back now.
Olson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hays.
Olson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Hays is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Olson.
Hays uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Olson.
Olson throws a sloppy head kick and Hays moves out of range easily.
Hays throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Olson.
Hays missing with a left hand there. Olson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Hays lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Olson at a distance.

A looping hook to the body misses from Hays. Olson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Olson feints the counter takedown.
Hays dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Olson. That did some damage!
Micah Hays is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hays walks forward, straight into a front kick from Olson.
Olson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hays is looking to slow Olson down with leg kicks.
Olson tries a head kick but it misses.

Hays takes the fight into the clinch.
Olson is trying to push Hays away but Hays has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Hays breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hays misses with a series of wild punches.
Nice shot lands for Hays.

And Hays counters with a quick kick to the body but Olson blocks it.
Olson fails with a takedown attempt.

Hays pushes Olson up against the cage in a clinch.
Hays presses Olson against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hays tries to work over Olson's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Hays fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Olson prevents a body shot from Hays.
Hays lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Olson blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Hays misses with a hook from the clinch.
Olson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hays is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Hays keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Olson's efforts to push away.

Hays loads up on a big right hand but Olson slips the punch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hays gets caught napping as Olson dives in and scores a takedown. Hays manages to retain guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Olson gets tackled into the cage by Hays. Hays maintains the clinch.
Hays lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Olson is looking to break free of the clinch but Hays has double underhooks.
Olson blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Hays misses with a short punch on the inside.
Hays goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Micah Hays has scored more points in the clinch so far.

Olson has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Hays is trying to keep an underhook but Olson manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Olson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Olson is keen to just control but Hays is a slippery customer.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hays wants to get back to his feet.
Olson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Olson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hays sees it coming and defends easily.
Olson looks to land a strike but Hays avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Olson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hays bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Olson's guard.

Olson wants to sweep here but Hays controlling him for the moment.
Olson has a closed guard, preventing Hays from standing up.
Olson is trying to keep Hays in close.

Hays wants to stand and escape but instead Olson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


Hays scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Olson throws an off balance right hand
and Hays counters with a stiff right hand.
Hays misses with an uppercut. Olson saw that one coming.
Olson thuds a left hand into Hays's body.
Olson darts in looking for a takedown but Hays gets double underhooks and turns Olson into the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Olson throws a hook but Hays avoids it easily.
Andrew Olson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hays scores with a head kick. Olson tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.


It looks like Andrew Olson has been cut.
Olson drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hays enables Olson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hays manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Olson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hays wants to stand and escape but Olson is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Olson throwing strikes from guard but Hays blocks nicely.
Hays is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Olson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Olson stands up over Hays, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Olson throws a strike but Hays rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Olson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Olson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hays is just riding it out for now. Olson eventually gives up the hold.
Olson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hays with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Micah Hays is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Olson is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Hays!
Hays slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Olson thows a huge punch but Hays dodges it nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Micah Hays.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hays, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
