PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sam Keene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Flash Runner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Sam Keene has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Sam Keene seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Keene!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Flash Runner!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Keene is defended easily by Runner.
Keene slips a jab and a cross from Runner.
Keene tries to counter with a takedown but Runner is quick to defend against it.

Runner changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Keene looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Runner throws a strike aimed at the side of Keene's head but Keene avoids it well.

Runner tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Runner has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Keene gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Keene actively working from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Runner is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Runner is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Keene is just riding it out for now. Runner eventually gives up the hold.

Runner seems to be looking for submissions.
Keene is trying to control but can't.
Runner is pressing down on Keene's thigh, looking to free his foot. Keene is holding on for now.
Runner wants to lay and pray for a moment but Keene keeps working.

Keene looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Runner is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Keene is just riding it out for now. Runner eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Runner is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Keene gets full guard.
Keene looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Runner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Keene bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Runner's guard.

Keene trying to control but Runner is working from the bottom.

Keene postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Runner is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Keene, into his guard.

Runner is looking to advance position but Keene has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Keene avoids the attempt from Runner to control.

Keene goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Runner turns into him and now he's in Keene's guard.
Keene keeping full guard, as Runner tries to pass.

Keene is looking for a triangle but Runner pushes his legs off easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Runner wants to get up but he can't break Keene's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Keene is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Runner is aware though and is defending well.
Runner looking to sit in guard and control but Keene gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Runner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Keene trying to control the position from guard on top but Runner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Runner is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Keene drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Runner dives on top into guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Flash Runner dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Runner feints and as Keene raises his hands in defense, Runner changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Keene working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Runner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Runner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Runner lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Keene is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Runner scoring with some ground and pound.

Runner thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Keene is looking for a triangle but Runner pushes his legs off easily.

Keene is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Runner defends it well.

Runner is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Runner manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Keene keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Runner is trying to trip Keene. He has hold of a leg but Keene is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Runner persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Keene is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Runner looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Runner is breathing heavily.
Keene works his foot free and advances to mount.
Runner is squirming around, avoiding Keene's attempts to control the action.
Runner is in all sorts of trouble here.
Keene wants to control but Runner has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Runner tries to get to full guard but Keene has control of the leg.

Keene is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Runner doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Keene.

Keene is looking for a kimura but Runner is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Keene to get the leverage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Keene tries to pass to full mount but Runner defends it.

Keene seems to be working for a kimura but Runner defends the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Flash Runner will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Runner gets the takedown into side control.

Runner is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Keene has escaped the position, nice work there.
Keene gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Runner is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Keene sees it coming and defends easily.
Keene is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Runner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Runner's back!
Runner is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Keene off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Keene working for the choke.

Keene looking to finish the fight with a rear naked choke. Runner is controlling Keene 's left arm and he spins nicely into guard.
Flash Runner has got the better of the ground game so far.

Runner pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Keene is keeping the position for now.
Keene keeping moving, preventing Runner from controlling successfully.

Keene is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Runner is aware though and is defending well.

Runner is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Runner trying to control the position from guard on top but Keene is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Keene controls Runner momentarily but Runner frees himself.

Keene is looking to cinch up a triangle. Runner throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Keene's body to avoid the submission. Keene has instead reached around Runner's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Keene arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Sam Keene!
Our winner, Sam Keene, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
The defeated Flash Runner had this to say: 'well a loss was gonna happen sooner or latter just need to get back in the cage!! who is next?'.
