Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jani McPetteri! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joe Stone! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Illya Tyunina and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McPetteri throws a chopping leg kick but Stone manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Stone misses with a straight right. McPetteri looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger. Stone shoots in looking for a takedown but McPetteri manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Stone's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Nice sprawl there from McPetteri as Stone shoots in. Stone closes this distance looking for a takedown but McPetteri circles away. McPetteri thinks about countering with a head kick. Jani McPetteri has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Stone. McPetteri gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Stone thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. McPetteri wants to improve his position but instead Stone has moved into half guard.
McPetteri won't allow Stone to pass to mount. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McPetteri is looking for a sweep. Stone is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. McPetteri trying to control here.
Stone is looking for a kimura but McPetteri is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Stone to get the leverage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stone wants to pass to mount but McPetteri is defending the position. Stone has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can McPetteri defend it? Stone steps over the head and cranks it - McPetteri is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Stone!
