Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Micheal Bates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paulie Pennino!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Daniel Blasius and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pennino moves away from the strike by Bates.
Bates stuffs the takedown.
Bates tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pennino sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bates somewhat.
Pennino walks into a jab.
Bates keeps the fight on the outside.
Bates has been working on his balance at Arvins Bootcamp, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Pennino.
Bates doesn't manage to clinch there - Pennino circles away.
Bates throws a leg kick that misses.
Pennino gets caught napping as Bates dives in and scores a takedown. Pennino manages to retain guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pennino dives in and grabs Bates's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bates pushes down on Pennino's head and hops out.
A looping hook to the body misses from Pennino. Bates does a little dance to reset his feet.
