Coming up we have a lightweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Rodney Holzken and The Steel Penn. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 1 losses; Rodney Holzken! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 3 losses; The Steel Penn! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Holzken shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Holzken showed some decent athleticism there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Steel Penn is refusing to be controlled, as Holzken sits in half guard. Steel Penn is looking to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Holzken is looking to advance position but Steel Penn won't allow it. Steel Penn is looking for a sweep. Holzken is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Holzken looking to control and managing it successfully. Holzken has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Holzken prevents Steel Penn from getting the reversal.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Steel Penn sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Steel Penn trying to hold on to Holzken's head to control him but Holzken postures up.
Steel Penn wants to get back to full guard. Holzken performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Holzken controlling the pace. Steel Penn is pressing down on Holzken's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Steel Penn pulls Holzken in close to prevent any damage. Steel Penn tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Holzken is fighting to break Steel Penn's control of his arms but Steel Penn is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Steel Penn keeping full guard, as Holzken tries to pass. Steel Penn has control of Holzken's left arm, preventing Holzken from doing any damage. Steel Penn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Holzken is one step ahead there. Holzken is pushing down on Steel Penn's leg trying to pass to half guard. Steel Penn is fighting to maintain full guard but Holzken has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Holzken is looking for a kimura but Steel Penn is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Holzken to get the leverage. Holzken looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Steel Penn tries to get to full guard but Holzken has control of the leg. Well, if Holzken is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Steel Penn wants to control but Holzken is keeping busy and won't allow it. Steel Penn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Holzken is trying to control. Steel Penn wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Holzken looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Holzken looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Holzken is trying to control. Steel Penn wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Holzken passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Steel Penn! Score +3 for taking back: Holzken (11) vs (0) Steel Penn Holzken is looking to control Steel Penn but Steel Penn is wriggling around and keeping busy. Steel Penn trying to control the hands but Holzken breaks the grip. You can see the frustration on Steel Penn's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Steel Penn staying busy and making it hard for Holzken to control. What can Steel Penn do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Holzken keeps control of the position as Steel Penn tries to break free.
Holzken controlling the position well here. Steel Penn rolled but Holzken kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Holzken tries to pass the half guard into mount. Steel Penn knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Holzken is taking a breather. Steel Penn says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Steel Penn is trying to control but can't.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Steel Penn is refusing to be controlled, as Holzken sits in half guard. Steel Penn won't allow Holzken to pass to mount. Steel Penn wants to get back to full guard. Steel Penn keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Steel Penn is staying active underneath Holzken, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that's the end of the fight! Holzken takes the fight on points by 11 to 0. In his post fight interview, Rodney Holzken started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception. The defeated The Steel Penn had this to say: 'I will be back. '. |
