PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David C. Marvin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ibrahim Abai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marvin and Ibrahim Abai. Marvin comes to the cage accompanied by Superman Theme. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, David C. Marvin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ibrahim Abai!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marvin avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Marvin is looking to counter the offense by Abai and move into the clinch.
Ibrahim Abai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Abai jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Abai throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Marvin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Marvin stops Abai from standing up.
Marvin trying to control but Abai is working from the bottom.
Abai wants to get back to his feet but Marvin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Marvin trying to control the position from guard on top but Abai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Abai is looking to stand up but Marvin isn't so interested in that idea.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Marvin wants to control from the top but Abai keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Marvin moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Abai tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A low kick from Abai is predictable there

and Marvin counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Marvin is working for a kimura but Abai is defending it quite comfortably.
Abai wants to get back to his feet.
Marvin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Abai wants to get back to his feet.
Abai is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Marvin perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marvin's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Abai is trying to stand back up but Marvin is controlling him
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Marvin takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Abai thumps Marvin with a low kick.
Abai misses with the body kick

and Marvin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Marvin wants to pass the guard but Abai is keeping the position.
Marvin is working hard here to advance position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Abai wants to get back to his feet but Marvin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Abai is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Marvin is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marvin looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Abai wants to stand but Marvin is controlling the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Marvin wants to control from the top but Abai keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Abai throws a leg kick but Marvin checks it.
Marvin looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
A solid body kick from Marvin.
Marvin checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Abai throws a head kick that misses
and Marvin counters with an inside leg kick.
Abai looks winded!
No joy there for Abai, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Marvin drops down looking for a counter takedown but Abai sprawls and moves away.
Abai lands a nice leg kick that just misses Marvin's sensitive parts.
Marvin scores with a leg kick.
Abai is looking to slow Marvin down with leg kicks.
Abai looks to land a body kick but Marvin moved away.
Abai lands a head kick. Marvin smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

A head kick lands from Marvin that sends Abai to the canvas. Abai tries to scramble back to his feet but Marvin brings him back down into side control.


Abai is rocked!
Abai has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Marvin remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Abai is still in real trouble! Can Marvin finish him?

Marvin has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Abai is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Marvin yanks on the arm and Abai is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Marvin.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). David C. Marvin!
