Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jason Mitchell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jamie Varner! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Igor Prikhodko and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Varner drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Varner is looking to work some ground and pound but Mitchell has wrist control. Varner postures up in Mitchell's guard and throws a big left but Mitchell blocks it. Varner told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Mitchell wants to sweep here but Varner controlling him for the moment. Mitchell is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Varner landing with the ground and pound. Varner sitting in guard here, content to control. Mitchell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mitchell misses with a takedown attempt and Varner counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Varner distracts Mitchell with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Mitchell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Varner controls the pace. Varner's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Let's hope that Varner has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Varner stops Mitchell from standing up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Varner closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Varner lands in his opponent's guard. Mitchell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Varner is one step ahead there. Varner postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Varner seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Varner is working Mitchell over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Yet more stalling tactics from Varner. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Mitchell looks to move to half guard but instead Varner has passed into mount! Damn! Mitchell is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Mitchell wants to control but Varner is having none of it. Varner controlling his opponent. Varner with more of the same as he continues to hold on.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Varner with the ground and pound from mount. Varner tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Varner working Mitchell over with strikes here. Varner scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Mitchell?

Jamie Varner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Varner defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mitchell. Mitchell gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Varner to score an easy takedown into full guard. Varner stopping the sweep attempt from Mitchell. Varner is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Varner postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Varner not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Varner is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mitchell's half guard. Varner content to control rather than advance. The adventures of Varner the control monster continue. Boring. Mitchell is trying to control but Varner manages to pass to mount!

Mitchell is desperately trying to improve his position but Varner has a good base and remains in mount. Jason Mitchell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Varner fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Varner has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The referee warns Mitchell that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Varner lands a heavy elbow. Varner tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Varner cracks Mitchell with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Mitchell is rocked! Varner looking to control and managing it successfully. Varner lands with some strikes. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Mitchell is in all sorts of trouble here.

And that's the end of the fight! Jamie Varner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Varner has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
