The bell rings for round one and we are underway! BJ Penn throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
BJ Penn stuffs the takedown attempt from Jay Penn. Jay Penn gets slowly back to his feet. Jay Penn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming BJ Penn to the mat! BJ Penn manages to get full guard. BJ Penn looking for a sweep. Not yet BJ Penn, not yet. Jay Penn drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but BJ Penn manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jay Penn has BJ Penn in his guard. That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Jay Penn is looking for a triangle here but BJ Penn uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Jay Penn tries to buck BJ Penn off but BJ Penn is having none of it. BJ Penn decides to take the fight back to the feet. BJ Penn throws a leg kick but Jay Penn sees it coming and checks it nicely. BJ Penn throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
BJ Penn connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. BJ Penn pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Jay Penn slips under a jab. BJ Penn throws a lazy right hand but Jay Penn sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Jay Penn slips a jab from BJ Penn. Jay Penn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? BJ Penn is fending him off so far but Jay Penn persists. Nope, BJ Penn circles away and we're back to standing. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that BJ Penn will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

It looks like Jay Penn has been cut. Jay Penn fails with a takedown attempt. BJ Penn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Penn. BJ Penn lands a nice shot that snaps Jay Penn's head back.

He shot from a bit too far out. Jay Penn slips under a jab from BJ Penn. Jay Penn looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. BJ Penn scores with a jab to the jaw. A cross from BJ Penn lands. BJ Penn is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jay Penn. Jay Penn looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. BJ Penn sends Jay Penn crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! BJ Penn is motioning to the referee to let Jay Penn up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Jay Penn is rocked! Jay Penn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. BJ Penn throws out a loose jab but Jay Penn uses good head movement to avoid it. BJ Penn throws a big shot that misses. Jay Penn uses good head movement to avoid the hook from BJ Penn.
That's two minutes gone in the round. No luck for Jay Penn with that takedown attempt. BJ Penn is winning the standup battle so far. BJ Penn connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Jay Penn tumbling to the canvas! BJ Penn pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Jay Penn was done - good stoppage!
