Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Slawek Libon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Terunari Kagiyama! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Libon throws an off balance right hand
and Kagiyama counters with a low kick, right behind Libon 's knee. Terunari Kagiyama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kagiyama throws a nice outside leg kick. Libon takes one to the side of the head.
Libon with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Kagiyama to score with a decent uppercut. Kagiyama bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Libon! He dives into his guard looking to finish!
Libon is rocked! My spies in Hellfire Antechamber inform me that Kagiyama has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Libon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Libon looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Oh Libon is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Kagiyama looking to pass the guard. Libon seems to have got his legs back now. Kagiyama wants to control from the top but Libon keeps moving. Kagiyama missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kagiyama slips nicely into half guard. Kagiyama wants to lay and pray for a moment but Libon keeps working. Kagiyama throws a strike but Libon avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Libon utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kagiyama working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Kagiyama with a nice head shot there. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kagiyama's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Libon keeping moving, preventing Kagiyama from controlling successfully. Kagiyama in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kagiyama throws a strike but Libon rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Libon drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kagiyama manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Libon has Kagiyama in his guard.
Libon is breathing heavily. Kagiyama throwing strikes but missing. Kagiyama is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Kagiyama must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kagiyama lands a couple of digs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kagiyama works over Libon with some ground and pound from guard. Kagiyama content to stall in guard here. Kagiyama wants to control from the top but Libon keeps moving. Libon being controlled here, momentarily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Kagiyama wants to control from the top but Libon keeps moving. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Libon has his takedown stuffed and Kagiyama counters with a stiff right hand. Libon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Terunari Kagiyama dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Kagiyama lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Libon sprawling to the canvas. Kagiyama follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Libon hang on? Kagiyama is looking to stall here but Libon recovers full guard. Kagiyama slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Kagiyama trying to control but Libon is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kagiyama passes into half guard. Kagiyama works his foot free and advances to mount. Kagiyama lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Libon hang on? Kagiyama tries to control but Libon wriggling away. Kagiyama lands with some strikes. Kagiyama sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Libon is bucking up trying to escape but Kagiyama cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Kagiyama controlling his opponent. Kagiyama trying to control but Libon is having none of it. Kagiyama might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Libon haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kagiyama working away from the top, dropping strikes. Kagiyama lands a big elbow - Libon is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Libon is forced to tap out!
