PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ylermi Fugu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Giuseppe Amodei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fugu comes to the ring accompanied by The Japanese House - Face Like Thunder. Giuseppe Amodei is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ylermi Fugu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Giuseppe Amodei!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Amodei takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Amodei tries to move into range but Fugu moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Fugu connects with a right hand. Amodei shakes it off.
Amodei keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Fugu connects with a single shot there.
Amodei swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Fugu connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Amodei's hands.
Fugu lands with a hook. Amodei tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Fugu scores with the left hand. Amodei knows he should have avoided that one.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Amodei counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Amodei looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Amodei loads up on a big right hand but Fugu slips the punch.
Amodei takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Fugu changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Amodei looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Amodei has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Amodei tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fugu wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Fugu wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Amodei, who protects the arm well.

Fugu goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Amodei rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Fugu's guard! Nice work there by Amodei!

Fugu has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Amodei is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Fugu.
Amodei is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Fugu wants to control but Amodei postures up.
Fugu really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Amodei tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Amodei has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Fugu tries to lock up and control but Amodei gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Amodei is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Fugu has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Fugu!

Fugu is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Amodei jumps into side control!

Amodei is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Fugu is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Fugu on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Fugu tries to get out of the position.

Amodei wants to control the pace but Fugu is squirming around nicely.

Amodei is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Fugu can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Amodei prevents Fugu from improving his position.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Fugu is refusing to be controlled, as Amodei sits in half guard.
Fugu is looking for a sweep. Amodei is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Amodei moves nicely into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Amodei works to advance to full mount. Fugu defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Giuseppe Amodei will probably get the nod.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fugu wants to take the fight to the mat but Amodei manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Fugu breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Fugu connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Amodei momentarily.
Fugu throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

and Amodei connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Amodei throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Fugu ducks under a wild hook from Amodei.
Fugu went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Amodei moves away from the strike by Fugu.
Amodei misses with a wild body shot.
Fugu is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Fugu is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Fugu misses with a two punch combination.
Ylermi Fugu is winning the standup battle so far.
Amodei connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Fugu connects with a jab.
Fugu has been working on his balance at Gangsterdamage, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Amodei.

A combination from Fugu does no damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Fugu misses the jab.
Fugu uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Amodei.
Fugu drops down looking for a counter takedown but Amodei sprawls and moves away.
Amodei tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Fugu was well out of range. Poor timing from Amodei.

Fugu closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Amodei's guard.

Amodei pushes a forearm under Fugu's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Fugu is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Giuseppe Amodei!
