Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Shannon Bender! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steven Fenca! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Chris Saunders and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fenca drives through with a takedown into guard. Bender looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Bender looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bender might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Fenca wants to pass the guard but Bender is keeping the position. Fenca showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Fenca's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bender thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Bender really is a fat lump.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fenca stands up and waves to Bender to follow him. Bender goes for a double leg but Fenca avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Fenca continues to drive forward. Fenca tries to counter with a clinch but Bender shakes him off and moves away. Fenca drives through with a takedown into Bender's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Bender tries to land a sweep but no joy. Bender throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Fenca trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Fenca with a flurry of punches that miss. Bender throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Fenca is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bender can't keep his opponent in guard - Fenca advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fenca not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Bender wants to control but Fenca is keeping busy.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bender is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fenca pulls his head out easily.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Fenca closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Fenca is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Bender is trying to maintain the position but Fenca is very close to passing his half guard. Fenca controlling the action here. Bender looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fenca throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Bender is trying to maintain the position but Fenca is very close to passing his half guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Bender is trying to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Fenca content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Steven Fenca dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Bender shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fenca pinned against the cage. Fenca gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Fenca with the counter takedown but Bender avoids it easily. Shannon Bender is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Fenca throws a sloppy head kick and Bender moves out of range easily. Fenca manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bender on his heels. He'll look to pass Bender's guard now, I'm sure. Bender doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bender is looking for a triangle here but Fenca uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round. Bender is not content to let Fenca control the position. Bender can't do much from the bottom here. Fenca goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Bender has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Fenca but great work by Bender.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bender decides to stand up, so the ref orders Fenca to his feet. Bender shoots in for a takedown but Fenca shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Bender takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Fenca shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bender is trying to defend but Fenca finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Bender is rocked! Bender tries to get to full guard but Fenca has control of the leg. Oh Bender is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Fenca seems to be looking for submissions.
Fenca controlling the action here. Bender seems to have got his legs back now. Fenca thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Fenca wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bender keeps working.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bender is pressing down on Fenca's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Fenca gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Fenca drives through with a takedown into guard. Bender scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Bender tries to clinch but Fenca moves out of range. Fenca manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bender on his heels. He'll look to pass Bender's guard now, I'm sure. Fenca drops back, looking for a kneebar! Bender looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Bender looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Bender!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Fenca is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fenca is looking to control Bender's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fenca avoid being mounted? Bender tries to stand and escape but Fenca is controlling the position. Fenca trying to control but Bender postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Fenca moves into full guard.
Fenca is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Steven Fenca showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Let's hope that Fenca has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Fenca throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bender works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Fenca throws a big right hand that misses. Fenca decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bender, up you get! Fenca scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Fenca controls the position. Fenca tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fenca has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Fenca fails to land a wild elbow strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round. An elbow from Fenca crashes against the mat.
Fenca is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Bender avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Fenca. The ground and pound from Fenca seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Fenca has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Bender! Bender is looking to get to half guard. Fenca content just to control the position here. Bender wants to hold on but Fenca pushes him away. Fenca prevents Bender from getting the reversal. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Fenca thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Fenca looking to ground and pound but Bender is blocking nicely. Shannon Bender has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Steven Fenca is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Fenca sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
And that's the end of the fight! Steven Fenca comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Fenca has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
