Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mitchel Hatfield! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shawn Griffin! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hatfield has managed to clinch.
Griffin looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Griffin gets underhooks to prevent Hatfield's takedown attempt.
Hatfield controlling the action here for a moment.
Hatfield is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Hatfield pulls Griffin into guard.
Hatfield throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Hatfield working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Griffin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Griffin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hatfield wants to stand up but Griffin is controlling him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hatfield escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Griffin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Griffin working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hatfield's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hatfield thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Hatfield wants to sweep but no luck. Hatfield working for a triangle but Griffin defends it easily.
Griffin postures up and lands a big shot to Hatfield's brow. Hatfield wants to stand and escape but Griffin is having none of it. Griffin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Griffin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Hatfield is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Hatfield trying to keep a closed guard but Griffin is proving a slippery customer.
Hatfield is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Griffin is aware though and is defending well. Hatfield escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Griffin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Hatfield can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Griffin controls the pace. Griffin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Griffin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hatfield swivels though and keeps the full guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Hatfield uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Hatfield gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Griffin missing with knees to the body.
Griffin has Hatfield pressed against the cage, preventing Hatfield from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Hatfield is looking for a takedown. Hatfield changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Griffin fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mitchel Hatfield. That's going to take a lot out of him. Griffin shoots in and bounces Hatfield off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. We've been informed that Griffin has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hatfield doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Hatfield being controlled here, momentarily. Hatfield keeping moving, preventing Griffin from controlling successfully. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Hatfield pushes Griffin off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hatfield bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mitchel Hatfield dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Hatfield fails in his attempt to clinch. Griffin gets in close and instigates a clinch. Hatfield ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hatfield no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Hatfield wants to stand up but Griffin is controlling him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hatfield is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Griffin can do to turn this around? Griffin slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Hatfield. Hatfield is trying to maintain the position but Griffin is very close to passing his half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hatfield has one foot on Griffin's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Hatfield misses with a wild combination.
Griffin is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Griffin looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Hatfield! Hatfield is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Hatfield wants to control but Griffin is keeping busy.
Griffin not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Hatfield is looking to escape. Hatfield gets full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hatfield wants to stand and escape but Griffin is having none of it. Hatfield wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Hatfield fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Griffin, pushing him back against the cage. Hatfield tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Griffin has picked Hatfield up - he's going for a ride! Griffin dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Griffin prevents Hatfield from standing back up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hatfield is looking to get back to is feet but Griffin passes into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Griffin is continuing to stall. Hatfield really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Hatfield is trying to buck Griffin off. Hatfield is trying to escape the position but Griffin is controlling the position. Griffin trying to control the action but Hatfield is working from the bottom. Hatfield wants to get back to his feet but Griffin drags him back down. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. You can see the frustration on Hatfield's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hatfield tries to clinch up. Hatfield moves in looking to clinch but Griffin pushes him off. Griffin scores with a takedown into Hatfield's guard. Hatfield trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Griffin throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Griffin's corner is telling him to maintain position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Shawn Griffin will probably get the nod - 10:9. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Hatfield tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Griffin paws at him with a jab and circles away. Griffin missing with a left hand there. Hatfield was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Griffin avoids the head kick by Hatfield.
Griffin throws out a counter right but Hatfield avoids it with no problem. Hatfield shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Griffin as he avoids it easily. Griffin is looking to land body kicks. Hatfield throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Griffin's waist but Griffin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hatfield off to one side. Shawn Griffin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Griffin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hatfield to the ground. Griffin is now in Hatfield's guard. Griffin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's one minute gone in the round. Hatfield throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Griffin looking to pass the guard. Griffin trying to control the position from guard on top but Hatfield is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Griffin with a flurry of punches that miss. Hatfield has his feet on Griffin's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Griffin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Hatfield scrambles and gets back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Griffin gets caught flat footed, as Hatfield shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Griffin has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Hatfield is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Griffin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hatfield doesn't manage to clinch there - Griffin circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Hatfield shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hatfield was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Griffin tries to improve position but can't. Griffin looks to move to half guard but instead Hatfield has passed into mount! Damn! Hatfield will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Griffin throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Griffin sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Griffin wants to improve his position but Hatfield is controlling well.

And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Shawn Griffin. I think Griffin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
